Patricia McAuliffe Obituary

Patricia Marie (McSweeney) McAuliffe

1935-2018

Passed peacefully in her home on November 19, 2018 after suffering a stroke a few weeks earlier. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband John. She was the loving mother of Michelle (Don) Torre and Mariann (Rick) Ward, and cherished grandmother of Kaitlin and Kara Torre and Stacey and Jeffrey Ward. She is also survived by eight nieces, one nephew, and several godchildren. Predeceased by her parents, James and Gertrude McSweeney and brother Paul McSweeney.

A native San Franciscan, she was a proud graduate of Star of the Sea Academy, Class of 1953 and graduated from San Francisco State College in 1957. Pat and John married in 1958 and settled in San Rafael where they raised their two daughters. She taught first and second grades at St. Patrick's School in Larkspur for over twenty years.

Family, faith and friends were the foundations of her life. She was an active parishioner of St. Sylvester's Chapel and St. Raphael's Church and a Eucharistic Minister at both churches. An avid traveler, she especially enjoyed planning international adventures, exploring new countries and their cultures. Three years ago she moved to Atria Tamalpais Creek in Novato where she thoroughly enjoyed living and socializing with her many new friends. Patty was truly grateful for the caring and attentive staff at her new home.

Interment will be private at Holy Cross Cemetery. A Memorial Mass to celebrate Pat's life will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Loretto Church, 1806 Novato Boulevard in Novato.

Pat will be greatly missed. Her memory lives on through her family, friends and the many people she touched with her kindness. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet Retirement Fund, 11999 Chalon Road, Los Angeles, CA 90049.

My deepest sympathy for your loss. May God be a source of comfort during this challenging time of sorrow. Please take comfort from the words of Psalms 94:19 " When anxieties overwhelmed me, you comfort and soothed me."

Mrs. McAuliffe was one of the reasons I went into teaching! I have many great memories of her, especially when my mom did her hair every Friday afternoon! Sending hugs and prayers your way!
