Pierangelo Bertolli Obituary

Pierangelo Bertolli
02/02/1946 - 06/06/2024
Pierangelo Bertolli, of San Carlos, CA passed away peacefully on June 6, 2024, surrounded by his children after a five-year battle with prostate cancer. Born on February 2, 1946, in Lucca, Italy, he dedicated his life to his family and community. A first-generation immigrant, he was the first-year graduating class of Woodrow Wilson High School in San Francisco. Angelo joined the US Air Force in July of 1964. During his military service, he served a one year tour of duty during the Tet Offensive of the Vietnam War at Tan Son Nhut Air Base in Saigon. Learning the skills from the military of an aircraft mechanic, in 1977, he opened an automotive repair shop with his partner Rene Chevalier in San Bruno. For 42 years, he built a lasting legacy of honesty in his community that will never be forgotten. His expertise unequivocally touched the lives of every social-economic class and all walks of life in between. His hard exterior was truly a soft interior expressing that he really wanted to help everyone he could. He was an avid gardener, known for his tomatoes, grape vines, and sunflowers. He was passionate supporter of the Bay Area NFL teams. Above all, cars were always his passion; buying, fixing and selling cars continued far beyond retirement. He deeply loved his grandchildren and will be missed by all of his family. Angelo is survived by his wife, Sandra; his children, Michael "Mike," Marisa, Leandro "Lionel," and Kevin; and his grandchildren, Valentina, Serafina, and Oliviero. He is also survived by his brothers, Francesco "Frank" and Sergio. He was predeceased by his parents, Delio and Assuntina Bertolli.
A rosary service will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024, at 6 pm at Duggan's Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Avenue, Daly City. The Requiem Mass will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 11:30 am, at St Catherine Of Siena Parish, 1310 Bayswater Avenue, Burlingame. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans Charitable Service Trust in Angelo's honor.

Angelo was a good man and he will be missed by all. He had the uncanny ability to make just about anyone smile and laugh. We will miss him very much for many years to

Sandra and family, I read about Angelo's passing in the Sunday paper. Although we haven't been in touch for some time, know that I have often thought of the two of you and how helpful both of you have been to us over the years. I am very sorry for your loss.

My name is Dave Lopez, if this is the Angelo Bertolli that I knew as a friend at Bryant school on Bryant school in the 6th grade, I have thought of him and his brother many times over these many years, they were living on Florida st and 24th , so nice as people. We also knew another guy, Luigi. He was Italian also, he seemed older though. Anyway I guess you never forget the nice ones that were nice to you. Still live in the city, Noe Valley, I used to live on York st, and 24th. Angelo always had a smile on his face then. Always wondered what happened to him.

It was somewhere back in the late 70´s when I met Angelo by having accompanied my neighbor/friend to A&R for auto service. Over the years he always impressed me as being the most sincere, hardworking, considerate, fair and practical mechanic I´ve ever known. In addition, his sense of humor was totally off-the-wall, so anyone could feel at home while at A&R. My family and I have many warm memories regarding Pierangelo Bertolli, in all, too many to mention here. So, to relate just a few, there was the day near Halloween and two of our youngest children were along during an urgent vehicle repair. Not only did he make certain they were warm, safe and comfortable but, he gave them candy as well. Then, not so long ago when he´d already retired, yet still hung around his shop, Angelo managed to sell me 2 very nice bicycles. How could I resist? He rode them around just to demonstrate they worked. It was at Hanlon´s Tires, where I was having service and he arrived to pickup his son Mike, where we sat around for a lengthy chat. It is most memorable for being our very last. In a bygone era people were considered most fortunate to have a skilled, dependable and trustworthy family doctor available to remedy everyone´s ills. Well, Pierangelo Bertolli was the "family car doctor" to so many, and a beloved friend of so many more. My family and I will remain forever grateful to have known him. God bless - until we meet again...
