Robert Beach Obituary

Robert Sheldon Beach
04/14/1927
Robert Sheldon Beach (Bob) passed away peacefully on February 15, 2022 surrounded by his family, after a very long and full life. Bob was born on April 14, 1927 in Saginaw, Michigan, to Robert S. Beach and Anne Roby, who later welcomed Bob's sister, Marjorie (Mardi). He graduated from Andover in 1945, after which he immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving until 1946. He then went on to Yale University, graduating in 1950, and Michigan Law School, where he met his first wife, Charlotte Matthews. After graduating in 1953, they married and drove across the country to settle first in Berkeley and then in San Francisco, where he made his home for the next 45 years.

While in San Francisco, Bob practiced law for several years, worked for a number of large NYSE companies, and finally formed his own company, specializing in real estate matters, which he ran until his retirement. Bob met his second wife, Marguerite (Bunny) Cavagnaro, while living in Rossmoor in Walnut Creek, and they married in 2016.

Bob enjoyed skiing, gardening and reading about history. He was also an avid traveler, adventuring around the globe in Africa, Europe and Asia, among other places. In addition, he was a long-standing member of the Bohemian Club, where he established many deep friendships. Bob had a unique personality, and he was known for his wry wit and for speaking his mind. He was a kind and generous man at heart, and his friends truly appreciated these qualities.

Bob is survived by his wife, Bunny, his three children, Robert (Bob), Elizabeth (Mills) and Matt, and his five grandchildren. Per his wishes, there will be no memorial service. Gifts may be made in his honor to the ASPCA, African Wildlife Foundation or Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Bob had an unconquerable spirit. In all the times over the years that I saw Bob, interesting stories and good cheer were the fare. He was a friend to my father since their Andover days and my father greatly valued their lifelong friendship. Bob will be missed. Condolences go out to his family.
