Mr. Booker was my American History teacher in 1967. He has popped into my mind many times recently as he impressed upon us all that "a democracy is a a fragile thing". Now I´ve learned that a single man can topple a democracy. Funny thing is that I believed nothing could topple our democracy. Damn, he was right. He is still teaching me history.

Hi Mr. Booker,
I was a sophmore in your history class, 1986 or 1987. I always felt there was something you wanted to tell me but you could not do so. What did you want to tell me? I look forward to our conversation.

Sincerely,

Dave Sherman

Coach Booker's five daughters must be very proud of their dad. Coach was bit rough on the edges, but he had a big heart and a kindness that he could not hide, Although our time together at Burlingame was short, I still feel the positive impact he had on my life. Tim Oppezzo class of 68.

I have such fond memories of Mr. Booker (Bouncing Bob) – always one of my favorite teachers. He gave such a warm greeting when you walked into his room or saw him in the hall. I always felt he was glad to see me. I can still picture that wonderfully shy smile he had. He wasn't afraid to make fun of himself, which helped me to be more comfortable with myself. I remember when his twins were born. His family had just moved and in the excitement of his wife going into labor, he mixed up the street and number address to the emergency dispatch. I loved the intensity he had at his basketball games. He truly cared about his students and they loved him. He will be missed.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Booker family.
Coach Booker was a great Teacher, Coach, Mentor and Friend. He touch so many lives. We will miss him deeply. I have been coaching High School Football for 26 years now. Nine of those years was at Burlingame High School. I was able to coach with Coach Booker for one year before he retired, and lucky enough to stay in touch with Coach Booker over the years. I would send Coach Booker my game films over the Holidays and he would consult with me about our Triple option offense. Those talks are gone, but will never be
forgotten Coach.

Thanks Coach Booker for inspire me!

To all of us who loved Bob Booker: Bob was a great coach and a great teacher. I was fortunate to be on Bob's first varsity football team as a head coach. He was also my history teacher. He had a very positive impact on my life. I have never forgotten his enthusiasm on the field and in the classroom. As a teacher and coach, I have always tried to be as passionate. We were beaten badly by Capuchino High my senior year and after the game, with my head down sitting on the locker room bench, he put his arm on me and asked me how my vision was. As a defensive back, I think I had three long passes completed over my zone. It was the first time I played at night and years later discovered I have incredibly poor night vision and my day time vision at best is 20/40. Bob did not berate me or hold me responsible for the loss. He somehow knew something was wrong. At times, he was tough, but at one of the lowest moments of my young life he chose not to be. Bob Booker made a difference in my life. Tim Oppezzo, history teacher, Shasta High School, Redding, CA

Bob was one of the greatest coaches and teachers of his generation- a true American hero! As a coach he would take a group of teenage boys and show us how to be men. As a teacher he would inspire us to dig deeper in search of the truth. We are all better fathers, mothers, and citizens because of the life lessons taught to us by Bob Booker. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his loving family.

My family, Mom and brother Tim were very saddened to hear of Coach's passing. Bob was a character and had an infectious smile and laugh. Loved his motivational talks before a game and grateful for the opportunity he gave me to coach the frosh soph at BHS in 1980. The same year he had a championship season with my brother Tim and Matt Hesselgren, Mark Alioto, Greg Barton, Mark Whalen, Tasoni Lavulu, Steve Chase to name a very few. God Bless you coach and God Speed.
