Simon Yeh Obituary

Simon Yeh, 72, passed away peacefully at home. Simon was born in Hong Kong in August 1952 to Gertrude and Hsun Yeh. The family immigrated to San Francisco in 1957. After graduating from Lowell High, Simon graduated from Stanford University where he met Elizabeth. Simon entered the graduate program at UC Davis and earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry in 1980. Simon married Elizabeth in 1977, and they welcomed JoAnna in 1983. Simon had a long and illustrious career working in the agricultural and pharmaceutical industries, first as a scientist and then moving up to senior management positions. Simon was a devout Christian. He was active in his church community, teaching Sunday School and serving on committees. Simon will be remembered for his faith, kindness, warm presence, and strength of character. Simon was an avid runner, who completed 17 full marathons and many more half marathons. A celebration of life service will take place at the Contra Costa Gospel Church at 2460 Buena Vista Ave, Walnut Creek, CA 94597 on May 31, 2025, at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Simon's memory to the Contra Costa Gospel Church or the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano.

Simon and I were compatriots in grad school. We both started and finished at the same time, and both worked in the Meares Chemistry Lab at UCD. He was a pleasure to work with, and ultimately I spent a large slice of my professional career working with the chemistry that he and David Sherman had developed in the Meares Lab.
Simon and I kept in touch over the years, and I know that his family was very important to him. My condolences to Liz and JoAnna. Simon lives on in our hearts and memories of his kind nature.

Simon was a senior graduate student about to get his PhD when I joined the Meares lab at UC Davis in 1979. I remember him as kind, thoughtful and soft spoken, generous with his ideas, gently delivered. Simon had a good sense of humor too. I saw him last in 2018 at a lab reunion dinner. He and his smile will be missed.
