Sophie M. Troya Passed peacefully June 11, 2007 in Scottsdale, AZ, at age 92. Native of San Francisco, CA. Devoted wife of the late Rudolph Troya. Beloved mother of Carol Goergen (Tom) of Rancho Santa Fe, CA, Rudy Troya (Anne) of Citrus Heights, CA, and Nancy Benedict (Ned) of Scottsdale, AZ. Adored grandmother of Ryan Goergen (Chanda), Lindsay Goergen, Adam Benedict (Lindsay) and Nicole and Natalie Troya. Loving great-grandmother of Haley and Ashley Benedict. Survived by many nieces and nephews. She was a member of the Slovenian Women's Union for over 50 years and was honored as Mother of the Year in 1989. Sophie was a fantastic cook known for her specialties of potica and apple strudel. She was a kind and generous person, always ready to offer help where it was needed. She possessed a sweet smile and a quick laugh. Sophie was happiest when surrounded by her family and took special delight in watching the antics of her two great granddaughters, Haley and Ashley. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 21 from 4-7PM, with a Rosary at 7PM at Valente Marini Perata & Co. Funeral Home, 4840 Mission St., San Francisco. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10AM Friday, June 22 at St. Teresa Catholic Church, 19th at Connecticut St., San Francisco. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made either to Eugene Udovich Scholarship Fund at Archbishop Riordan High School, 175 Phelan Ave., SF, CA 94112, or the Slovenian Hall Building Fund, 2101 Mariposa St, SF, CA 94107.
