Stanford Kroopf

Stanford Shea Kroopf M.D. March 20,1918 - April 18, 2011 Stan was an Emeritus Professor of Internal Medicine and Cardiology at Stanford University Medical School. Born in New York City, he was a prodigy who finished high school at 14. He received his B.A. at Stanford in 1937, then went on to Harvard Medical School. He met his wife and the love of his life Barbara (Bobbie) while doing his residency at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston. During World War II, Dr. Kroopf served in the Tropical Medicine Division of the Army Air Force retiring as a Major in 1946. In 1947, Stan and Bobbie moved to California and quickly had 3 children - Connie, Sandy, and Scott. Stan formed a private practice in Internal Medicine, specializing in Cardiology. He co-founded the 3rd Coronary Care Unit in the U.S. at Stanford Hospital, then went on to be its Chairman from 1962 to 1988. In addition to being a physician, innovator and teacher, Stan was an outstanding collage artist who had many exhibitions. After retiring in 1990, Stan and Bobbie finally were able to fulfill their dreams of world travel. In addition to his daughter Connie and sons Scott and Sandy, Dr. Kroopf is survived by grandsons Jackson and Wyatt, granddaughters Kelly, Marnie and Nora, and great grandsons Rowan and Jordan. He was loved and will be missed by everyone who knew him. His memorial was held on April 23. Contribution in Stan's memory may be made to the American Heart Association or KARA in Palo Alto.
