William Angel Obituary

William "Bill" Angel
April 23, 1947 - December 3, 2022
William "Bill" Angel lost his battle with lung cancer and passed away peacefully on December 3rd, surrounded by his family and beloved pets.
Bill was a proud native San Franciscan who graduated from Polytechnic High School. Soon after, Bill enlisted and served in the US Air Force as an airplane mechanic in the Vietnam War. Bill made his career of over thirty years with the San Francisco Sheriff's Department, where he made countless friends with the men and women who shared their time serving their community. Bill was also an usher for the SF Forty Niners and SF Giants at home games, where he was delighted to spend his time and humor with other sports-loving fans.
Bill's love of sports was not only as a spectator; he loved playing baseball, softball, and flat-track roller derby in his younger years. After he hung up his bat and glove, he umpired softball games with the Peninsula Sports Officials Association. Bill was also an avid bowler; participating in leagues and tournaments for many years. Golf has been one of his passions for the past three decades, and Bill was a member of the Veterans Golf Association. He also served as a marshall for several years at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and volunteered at various tournaments, including the US Open & Presidents Cup. Bill also spent countless summers enjoying quality time with his family at Camp Mather.
Bill was an active member and past president of the Godfather's Association for the St. Vincent School for Boys & Baseball Old Timers. He was also a member of the Clampers and Native Sons of the Golden West.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Susan Angel; sister Adriane Geddes; and son Mark Angel. Bill is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Hallie Angel, as well as children Daniel Angel (Suzy), Sydney Angel, Allison Angel Funk (Brian), Casey Angel (Adam), and Sarah Angel (Brandon), as well as his grandchildren Thomas Angel, Tiffany Angel, Lucas Silva, Victoria Goncalves, Indiana Angel Funk, and great-grandson Micah Smith.
Bill leaves behind a legacy of service, love, and much laughter. He will be dearly missed and celebrated on January 7th, 2023 at the Lake Merced Boathouse from 11 am to 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make donate to the American Cancer Society.

I only found out about this a week ago. I'm so sorry to hear about Bill's passing. I worked with him on festivals at St. Cecilia and enjoyed seeing him at Giants games and while walking down our shared 14th Avenue. Sincere condolences to Hallie and the kids.
