What I remember most about Bill Dowling, my classmate at St. Mary's College, was during basketball season. At halftime, there was Bill, out on the court, pushing his broom--sweeping the hardwood, dressed in his janitor overalls. Cheers ramped up when Bill appeared before the home team fans.

Condolences to Joyce, Bill IV, Michele, Dennis and Michael. I had to opportunity to speak with Bill recently and we had such a good talk. Growing up the Dowlings and The Bowleys were very close and even as years and distance separated us, I still stayed in touch. Bill was funny, caring and always the life of the party. I will miss our conversations, but will keep good memories in my heart and when I think of Bill it will be with a smile and I will hear his laugh, that was like no other. Eternal rest grant unto you, Bill. Until we meet again, love you.

Just last Sunday Mark and I were able to visit and talk to Bill. He was able to respond to what I said and shared.
Bill and I both went to Holy Name grammar school in San Francisco and were even in the same grad but not the same class.
Growing up Bob and Bill were good friends and he asked him to be best man in our wedding in1969. Lots of good memories were made when we meet at family gatherings and at events at the Russian River.
My condolences to the Dowling family

Want to extend a heartfelt sympathy to you and your family for the loss of Bill. Mark and I were able to meet and talked with Bill last Sunday. He was able to communicate and hear what I said and shared he will always be remembered and kept in my prayers. Want to share a few things from the past
Bill and I were both born in San Francisco and went to the same grammar school Holy Names. We were also in the same grade but not the same classroom. We never met up with each other till he met and married Joyce who was my husband Bob Berlo sister. Bill was a good friend of Bob´s and was best men at our wedding in 1969. Many times we would meet up at family gatherings and at the Russian river I remember Bill as a fun loving happy person
My sincere condolences to Joyce ,Bill Junior and family , Michelle and family ,Dennis and Michael

At the Showshoe Softball tournaments in Priest Lake, Idaho in the early 90's Bill was known as "The Ultimate." Never was a handle better earned or more deserved. Thanks, Bill. You made my life so much more fun.

My condolences to the entire family. I used to babysit the Dowling children when Bill and Joyce would go out with other Holy Name couples. My memories are of laughter and love that permeated the family.

When Willie's father died several decades ago I was in a pew at St. Ignatius Church on the USF campus there to honor Willie's father and to listen to his father's long time Catholic clergy friend provide this simple elegy ..."Bill was my friend, and I loved him." I was struck then (and now) by the simplicity, appropriateness, and completeness of those 8 words and have used them repeatedly over the years when it came time for me to write or speak in requiem settings. It saddens me and shatters me beyond measure to have the opportunity here to write these 8 words...."Willie was my friend, and I loved him."

As one of those folks who called him Mr. D, it was always a kick to hear bits and pieces of his tales, and of course there were the stories told about Mr. D by his friends and colleagues. A gentleman and a fellow Sunset District kid made good, my prayers go to his family.

No wonder, with roots in Listowel, Ireland-Bill was the best of storytellers with the warmest of hearts, and the wryest humor. I will miss my cousin dearly - he leaves a big void. Joyce, my thoughts are with you.

Mahoney-Noriega wedding Aug. 1, 1964. Bill and Joyce were best man and maid of honor. He caught the garter and, sure enough, ended up with Joyce as his lovely bride.
