Mary Gerry Obituary

GERRY- Mary Palmer Gerry, After a long illness, Mary passed away peacefully at home with family beside her on July 11, 2011. Born in Frankfurt Germany on July 5, 1928 to Mona McCarthy Palmer and William Russell Palmer, Mary attended Mayfield School, Polytechnic, Anoakia, Finch College, USC, and Cal State Los Angeles. She was an administrative assistant in several prominent law firms and later returned to Mayfield as a secretary where she also taught classes in History and Business. Mary traveled widely and her varied interests included gardening, cooking, bridge, horseback riding, learning French, needlepoint, and yoga. An avid horseracing fan, she was part owner of a thoroughbred named, General Reward. She is predeceased by her husband, Vance B. Gerry and survived by her sister, Polly Nicoll, and her brother Russell Palmer, as well as 16 nieces and nephews, and several great and great-great nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by her family and many friends. The family wishes to express thanks to Assurance Hospice of Pasadena for the compassionate care they provided. Burial will be private, but an informal gathering to remember Mary is scheduled for Thursday, July 21 from 4 to 7 PM at 450 South Arroyo Blvd in Pasadena. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary's memory may be made to The American Lung Association (http://www.lungusa.org/donate/), or to Second Chance Cocker Spaniel Rescue (http://secondchancecockerrescue .org/in-loving-memory-of/).
