Daniel Reid Obituary

Former Leo Burnett Exec Dies in Florida Daniel Scott Reid passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 3rd, surrounded by family and friends, at hospice in Sarasota, Florida. He was 69. Dan started his successful advertising career at Leo Burnett in Chicago in 1968, where he worked until 1992, leaving to become President of McCaffrey & McCall in New York. In 1995, in an agency merger with Ted Bates, became Worldwide Chairman of their Latin America division. Stints with Young & Rubicam and Polaroid are included in his resume, but he claimed Burnett as his first love. In 1998, with headmistress Pat Young, Dan founded the Stanwich School in Greenwich, Connecticut. It became the first co-ed K through 12 independent school in Greenwich. He marked this as a major accomplishment in his life. Dan never lost his passion for the advertising business, or marketing, and for "moving a client's business ahead." He was consumed by these ideas, even in his decline. But mostly, he was concerned with the future welfare of his family, and was most concerned with this, to his final days. Dan believed in Spartan challenges and Rudyard Kipling. He was a marathoner, a mountain climber, and a skier, even though he proudly acknowledged that his wife Tracey, and his children, were more accomplished at that sport than was he. On the golf course he was dubbed "Dan the Rocket Man" for his prodigious drives. Their endpoints were, however, sometimes undetermined. When his motor skills diminished, he'd content himself with standing on the shoreline and driving old golf balls out of sight across the water, no longer deterred by out-of-bounds markers. Dan is survived by his loving wife Tracey and their children, Colin and Haley, as well as Devon Ward, a daughter from a previous marriage, and a grandson Aidan . He will be missed as well by an older brother Dr.Michael Reid, of Madison, Wisconsin, and by his wife and their children--Dan's ten nieces and nephews. A small private celebration of Dan Reid's life will be held in Sarasota, Florida, and another will be held later, in Greenwich, Connecticut. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the non-denominational and supportive Jewish Families and Childrens' Services of Sarasota, or Tidewell Hospice of Sarasota for their caring help to the Reid family will be appreciated.

Uncle Dan was such a gregarious, charismatic guy who had a magnetic personality. I always knew that when Uncle Dan was around we would be laughing. What a great guy! He will be missed. Lots of love to the family.

Uncle Dan will be very missed by our family. I remember his visit to Milwaukee for my brother's wedding and the trips to visit him in Chicago. He inspired me in the Chicago advertising world and his connections helped launch my own advertising career. We will miss you Uncle Dan. Aunt Tracey, Devon, Hailey and Colin are in our prayers. Uncle Dan always made me laugh. He was as charismatic of a person as I have ever met. He had a wild side about him that made me always excited to see him when I was a kid and that never changed as I got older. Rest in Peace Uncle Dan. You will be missed.

Dan was a great guy. We worked together for many years. His two children Haley and Colin were the love of his life. He always talked fondly of Tracey as well. Dan will be missed.

We were so surprised and saddened to learn of Dan's passing. Even though we somehow fell out of touch, Diane and I have great memories of Dan and Tracey from the late 1970 and early 1980 while living at 1325 N. State Parkway here in Chicago and many, many good times together! Our sympathy to Tracey and your family......you will be in our thoughts and prayers. God surely has a fine place for Dan in heaven.

I have been so saddened about Dan's passing. I have lots of good memories about Dan in his younger years at Colorado State University and as a young father/husband in Chicago. I am forever grateful since our short time together gave us Devon Kelly. Rest in peace Daniel Scott. You will be missed.
