ElDon Watry Obituary

ElDon H. Watry

ElDon H. Watry 85, of Kiel and formerly of St. Anna died Friday morning March 21, 2014 after a brief illness. He was born on December 16, 1928 in Brothertown, son of the late Victor & Florence (Doern) Watry. ElDon graduated from Chilton High School and attended the University of Wisconsin , Madison.

On September 3, 1951 he was united in marriage to Imelda Schneider at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, New Holstein. Together the couple farmed in the Town of Russell and spent 59 years together. Imelda preceded him in death on January 2, 2011.

ElDon was a proud veteran of the US Army, serving during the Korean War from July 1952 until June 1954. He received two Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts during his service to his country. ElDon was a member of Kiel VFW Post 6707.

He was an active member of St. Ann Catholic Church, St. Anna, were he served as a lector and Eucharistic Minister. He and Imelda were also very involved with the Perpetual Adoration Chapel in Chilton. His life on the farm found him involved with many local organizations. He was associated with the Farm Bureau and Lake to Lake. He also served on the board of the Kiel Co-op and Swine Breeders Association.

In his free time he enjoyed looking at cars and going for drives. He especially loved to explore and talk about his family history. ElDon enjoyed watching sports of any kind and in his younger days played for the Brothertown Eagles Basketball Team.

Survivors include his children; Barbara Watry of Denver CO, Kay (Timothy) Martin of Westfield WI, Peter (Marcella) Watry of North Canton OH, Donna (Steven) Belanger of Greendale, Paul (Shannon) Watry of Wauwatosa. daughter-in-law; Susan Watry, rural Elkhart Lake. His twelve grandchildren; Elizabeth, Christine, Michael, Katherine and John Martin, Emma and Chelsea Watry, Sarah Belanger, Anneliese, William, Natalie and Bridget Watry. ElDon is also survived by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Mildred (Marvin) Thielmann, Cletus (Rita) Schneider, Norbert (Grace) Meyers, Donald Schneider, James Schafhauser and Janice Schneider.

He was preceded in death by his wife Imelda, a daughter; Mary Beth Watry, a son; Thomas Watry, brother; LeRoy (Marlene) Watry, sister; Virginia (Gordon) Rothman, his in-laws; Helen, Priscilla & Cyril Schneider, Beatrice Schafhauser and Lucille (Gregory) Sukowaty.

Funeral Mass for ElDon will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday March 26, 2014 at St. Ann Catholic Church, St. Anna with Rev. Harold Berryman and Deacon Peter Watry officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery with full military honors performed by Kiel VFW Post 6707. Family and friends may call at the Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home on Tuesday March 25, 2014 from 4:00pm until 7:00pm and at the church on Wednesday from 9:30am until the time of services.
