Ben Goforth Obituary

CHARLOTTE - Mr. Goforth Jr., 87, passed away at Atria Merrywood on May 12, 2012.
He was born Jan. 28, 1925, the son of Ben H. Goforth Sr. and Mary Bradford.
Born and raised in Kings Mountain, he was retired from the U.S. Navy with the rank of Commander, having served in World War II and Korea. He graduated from Kings Mountain High School and received his bachelor's degree in business administration from Western Carolina University in 1950.
Mr. Goforth was a long time human resources director for a number of firms including PPG Industries in Shelby, and Thurston Trucking Lines in Charlotte. He was a past president of the Shelby Rotary Club, and a one time deputy sheriff of Cleveland County.
Mr. Goforth was a long time member of the Boyce Memorial ARP Church in Kings Mountain, First Presbyterian Church of Shelby and Sardis Presbyterian Church in Charlotte.
He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Goforth; sons, Brad and Fritz Goforth along with grandchildren, Benjamin, Sallie, Timothy and Katherine Goforth, Joshua and Caleb Pegram and Robert Harvey. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Harvey.
Visitation: The family will receive friends following the service
Memorial Service: 2 p.m. Sunday in the Chapel of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service
