Allen Owen Obituary

Allen (Butch) Owen

Allen (Butch) Owen, age 70 left us on January 9, 2014, to be with the Lord Jesus. He was born January 9, 1944 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Bill and Carrie Cason Owen. The Celebration of Life will be held at Grace Community UMC, 9400 Ellerbe Rd. in Shreveport on January 14, 2014 at 6pm. Family will be receiving friends on Sunday the 12th from 2pm-4pm at the church. He was preceded in death by both of his parents and the love of his life, wife and friend, Ruby Ann Owen. He is survived by sister, Pat McBride; brother, Randy Owen; children, Tina Smith, Mike Owen, Tammy Owen, and Tommy Owen; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

His passions were family, wood carving, and most of all, his relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. He retired as a contractor and used his gift to allow the Gospel story to be told through his wood carving. Helping those less fortunate was important to Butch; even building a home, with the help of his church, for an elderly woman Hosston. He lived a life of service and will truly be missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Community UMC for "creative ministries" to allow his creative style of storytelling to continue to grow.

Ol Coon, we have not spoken nor seen eachother for many years; I did not even know Ruby had left this earth we have walked upon; lonely without her by your side I am sure. The memories of our "bullpen" sessions will forever grow within. Thank you so much for your wolf carving and the poem. You both will forever be loved and held dear in this other Ol Coon's heart. Remember the Christmas Party with the coon, deer and beaver pinwheels?! Not a memory of you exists within my mind that is not of laughfter and smiles.
May the trail rise up to meet you, may the wind be always at your back, may the sun shine warm upon your face, the snow fall soft on the hills around you and until we meet again....may God hold you in the hollow of His hand.

I'm so sorry Randy for your loss. Butch was such a nice person to me. Enjoyed those days of APA pool league. My heart goes out to you and your family.

Butch helped make my high school years truly memorable. We explored the late 50's and early 60's Shreveport-Bossier City streets driving our parents' 1955, 56, and 57 Chevies and Fords like they were our own. We got into a little mischief from time to time but we always had each other's back. One of the most precious gifts God gives us on this earth is a best friend, and Butch was mine.
