Helen Thomas Obituary

Helen Joyce Thomas

SHREVEPORT, LA - Helen was born on June 5, 1930. On Mother's Day, May 10, 2015 Helen departed this life for heaven. Her family by her side was granted the privilege to watch the angels from heaven open their arms and welcome the newcomer. Helen was a native of Center, Texas spending her childhood years in Mansfield, Louisiana. Later she became a longtime resident of the Keithville/Shreveport area. She leaves behind a world of great memories and untold stories for our family to share for generations to come.

Helen was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and faithful Christian, loved by all. Among her attributes she possessed a great sense of humor, generous to a fault, and completely unselfish. She loved her garden, flowers and fishing. Her greatest enjoyment in her senior years was dancing.

Helen was a member of Summer Grove Baptist Church and frequently attended First Baptist Church of Keithville. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Benton Thomas; parents Lonnie and Donnie Burns; 4 brothers and 3 sisters. She is survived by daughters, Joyce Kitts; Kay Richards and husband Eddie; Judy Dickson and husband Bill; sister, Marie Latona; 7 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren.

Helen was truly a Southern Lady. She and I worked together sitting with a Lady in Greenwood. Admired her very much. Also saw her at Bossier Council on Aging having a good time. God Bless All of you and know you are so proud of your Heritage.

My sincere condolences to Joyce, Karen, Natalie & the entire family. I had the pleasure of meeting Helen only once. Joyce always had stories of how her mom loved to dance & I know right now that she is dancing in Heaven

Whenever I visited the Thomas residence, which I've done many times over the last 50 years Helen was always a gracious and welcoming host. I so enjoyed visiting with her and listening to her stories about going dancing and having so much fun. I will miss her as I'm sure everyone who knew and loved her will.
