James Carter Obituary

James David "Jimmy" Carter

Lafayette, LA - James David "Jimmy" Carter was born on March 12, 1949 in Shreveport, LA to Owen and Mary Carter. He passed from this life on Monday, April 9, 2018 in Lafayette, LA at the age of 69.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Ethelene Milam Carter; eldest son, David Carter; mother Mary Carter; father and stepmother, Owen and Louise Carter; brother, Raymond Carter; sister-in-law, Faye Sanders.

He is survived by three sons, James "JimBob" Carter and wife Amanda of Winnsboro, LA, Joel Carter and wife Alicia of Houston, TX, and Matthew Carter of Alexandria, LA; three daughters, Jamie Blanco and husband Rafael of Baton Rouge, LA; Erin Carter of Carrollton, TX; and Julie Williams and husband Daniel of Bossier, LA; a daughter-in-law, Rena' Carter of Bossier City, LA; a brother, Charles Sanders of Tyler, TX; a sister-in-law, Belinda Carter of Corinth, MS; a sister, Iva Zimmerman and husband Marvin of Uvalde, TX; 11 grandchildren, Dean, Jonathan, Rowan, Laney, Alysia, Jaden, Lily, Eliza, Sadie, Elodie, Dialen, plus one on the way; and countless friends and family.

James David "Jimmy" Carter wore more hats than he had names! He was a self-proclaimed "Jack-of-all-trades, but master of none"; however, his family knows that he was a master at loving and leading. He was devoted to and cared for his wife for almost 50 years, and he always did his best to meet the needs and wants of his children and grandchildren. He was a Daddy with many super powers - he worked tirelessly to provide for his children; he found a way to fix everything that was broken; and if there was a specific item needed, he would find it - for free - or ridiculously cheap - and he'd even deliver or make house calls to install it! He gladly drove endless miles to be at his grandchildren's birthdays and events, making cherished memories with each one. He was truly selfless, putting others' needs before his own. He taught his children to put others first, to serve God, and to "do the right thing." He valued his friendships - with his brothers, his brothers-in-law, his coworkers, and with Jesus Christ.

Services for Jimmy will be held at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel on Friday, April 13, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Jerry Dean, Rev. Steve Stark, and Chuck Sanders officiating. Visitation will be held at Hill Crest Funeral Home on Thursday, April 12, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
