Coach was a terrific person. His large voice in practice helped motivate players with enthusiasim. His larger than life presence projected authority with the right amount of caring which made him a great leader of young boys learning to play football, basketball or any sport. He was a great role model. I am so blessed to have spoken with him by phone a few months ago and having exchanged greetings this past Christmas.
God Bless the Cassiere family.

I was in Mr. Cassiere's 6th grade class at Queensboro Elementary in 1965/66. He was one of my favorite teachers and I had tremendous respect for him. I will never forget he let us watch the World Series on TV in class. God bless him and all his family.

I will always be grateful for a competitive, encouraging, positive, affirming coach during my years as a child growing up in Shreveport. He made football practice fun and I played on his 75 lb football team, 1952-1955. He befriended our parents and made each family feel special. He was a good influence for a lot of boys.

Coach was my mentor as well as coach at Queensborough. Other than my father, he had the most impact on me during my most formative years. I can still see him demonstrating how to run an end sweep during football practice at Lakeshore Junior High. Every time I see a black four-door chevy sedan, I smile and think of Coach.

To the family of Joseph Cassiere,
I was in Mr. Cassiere's 6th grade class at Queensborough Elementary School. If my memory serves me correctly, everyone wanted to be in Mr. Cassiere's class-- fortunately several of my neighborhood friends were selected to be in his class for our 6th grade year. Mr. Cassiere had a positive influence on my life as well as all of the students he taught, coached or was an administrator for. Some of the "Queensborough" gang had planned to visit with Mr. Cassiere this summer upon learning that he was still in Shreveport-- a visit that I regret I was unable to make before his passing. Being an educator myself for 36 yrs-- I know that your students always must come first. I can honestly say that Mr. Cassiere always put his students first-- a true gentleman, educator, and leader for all of his students to follow. Dr. Cassiere-you should be very proud of the life that your father lived and know that he is receiving his reward for a life of service to mankind. I am honored to have been and will forever be one of Mr. Cassiere's "students" !!! God Bless you and your family during your time of loss and sorrow. My family and I will keep you in our prayers!!

Mr. Cassiere taught my mother at Queensboro Elementary in the 50's. He was my 6th grade math teacher at Hillsdale Elementary in 1975. Mr.C was a wonderful teacher and a kind soul. Just the other day, I was teaching my daughter something Mr. Cassiere taught me many years ago. He may be gone from us, but his teaching legacy will live through many generations. I havent seen him in 30 years, but I feel like I've lost a dear friend.

Dear Dr. Cassiere, I am so sorry to learn of your loss. After reading all the kind words of condolence for your father it is easy to see how you became the compassionate Doctor that you are. I was always happy to see you on the floor I worked. God bless you and yours at this difficult time.

Mr. Cassiere was my baseball coach from elementary school through Jr. high. He taught me a lot about baseball, but what he taught me about kindness, consideration, and respect for others still makes me smile today. Mr. Cassiere showed me that a person can be a teacher, coach, leader or father simply by showing respect.
It has been many years since I played on St. Theresa's ball team, but I still remember those years with Germaine, Joe and the gang and feel blessed I met Mr. Cassiere. My condolences to the family, but thank you for sharing your dad with others.

Mr. Cassiere was my sixth grade teacher (and my husband's) thirty seven years ago, at Hillsdale Elementary. To this day, we still talk about him with great fondness. He was the kindest man and had a unique ability to teach children and make it fun....even math. I will never forget all the things I learned from him. I know the speed of sound and light, and which direction south is (to this day)....and I definitely know where he has gone, as he was most certainly "borrowed from God". My deepest sympathies to his family.

I only met Mr. Cassiere in the last few years when he attended morning Mass at the Catholic Center. His encouragement led me to become a Eucharistic Minister in my own church, and his example is the primary reason I stepped outside of myself enough to sign up to take Holy Communion to our parish's closest nursing home residents. I will be forever grateful for having known his beautiful and generous spirit.

Mr. Cassiere and I shot Trap (clay targets) together and he always acted like a fine southern gentleman and was part of a wonderful family. He will be missed. Robson Cupples asked me to express his regrets as well. For several years, Mr. Cassiere was part of our local Trapshooting community.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Joseph Louis Cassiere our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Joe. And to Joe it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during WW-II while serving in the U.S. Army. Joe, we commend you for your honorable service. You are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American patriot warrior: courage, commitment, generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,261 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion and the 233 veterans of VFW Post 2238 in Shreveport, Louisiana, we extend our sympathies and our condolences to Joe's family and loved ones.
