Ann Williams McGarvey Obituary

Ann Jeannette (Williams) McGarvey, 93, of Santa Monica, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2024 in Valencia, California. Ann was born in Omaha, Nebraska on April 16, 1931 to Edgar Beebe Williams Jr and June Ruth (Gafford) Williams and grew up there with her older sister Harriett (Williams) Moore. The family lived in a house on Izard Street.
After graduating from Benson High School, Ann attended Carleton College, where she graduated magna cum laude with a BA in English. While at Carleton, Ann married David McGarvey. Following their graduation, they moved to New Haven, Connecticut and had their children while both pursuing graduate degrees at Yale University. The family relocated to Santa Monica in 1958. Ann went back to school and earned her DDS from the UCLA School of Dentistry in 1978.
Ann always loved nature, and developed an expertise in landscaping, which she shared with her later partner Gabriel Munoz. She helped him run his business, A-1 Sprinklers and Landscaping for many years before they parted and went separate ways but kept in touch until his passing in 2017.
Ann greatly enjoyed the arts, and was a season member of the LA Philharmonic. She was a lifelong avid reader. She later in life developed a passion for Pilates.
Ann always took a keen interest in her family and greatly enjoyed visits and vacation trips.
She is predeceased by her sister Harriett Elizabeth, and her grandson Patrick Ellerbroek. She is survived by her children Scott McGarvey of Dallas, TX, and Nancy (David) of Valencia, many nephews and nieces, her grandchildren Daniel, Kenneth (Amanda) and Valerie(Michael), and several great-grandchildren
Interment will be at Eternal Valley in Newhall. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
