Clarence Strom Obituary

Clarence 'Ron' Strom

Sioux City

Clarence "Ron" Strom, 89, of Sioux City, passed away Dec. 30, 2020, at a local hospital.

Due to the pandemic, services are pending at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. A private family burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery. Online condolences may be made to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Ron was born on Feb. 2, 1931, in Coon Rapids, Iowa, to David O. Strom and Sylvia Titus Strom Palmer. He graduated Coon Rapids High School and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1953 during the Korean War.

He was united in marriage to Shirley Anthofer on June 19, 1951, and entered Bradley University that same year to become a watchmaker jeweler. He owned Strom Jewelers in Emmetsburg, Iowa, and moved to Sioux City where he worked for Thorpe & Co. Jewelers and Gunderson's Jewelers.

He loved sail boating with his wife, Shirley, and they also enjoyed traveling coast to coast across the U.S. in their RV.

Ron supported the community and served for 10 years as the facilitator for the prostate cancer group meetings at the June E. Nylen Cancer Center.

He is survived by his daughters, Melany J. Bailey (John R. Thiele) of Ruch, Ore. and Jaynie L. Krichbaum (Charlie R.) of Orange Park, Fla.; granddaughter, Aubrey L. Steele (Robert J.); great- granddaughter, Alba B. Steele of Jacksonville, Fla.; sister, Carolyn B. Roberts (Ron F.) of Waterloo, Iowa; and many brothers/sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley M. Strom and their beloved cat, Sweetie; his parents, Sylvia A. and J. Ollie Palmer; father, David O. Strom; and his brothers, Kenneth L. and F. Stan Strom.

The family would like to thank UnityPoint staff who helped care for Ron and recognize the following for excellence in compassionate care: Hospitalist Dr. Mohsen from UnityPoint St. Luke's; Chaplin Mark Westrick from Reform Church; Father Terry Roder from Sacred Heart; the palliative care team of Bryce, Dora and Shannon; discharge planner Jamie; and nurses, Allyson Van Wyk, Erica Burbach, Richelle Guy, Heather Hamel, Stephanie Vandebrake, Victor Perez and Julia Wilson. The family also recognizes the staff at the Heritage of Northern Hills for the kind and attentive care they provided. A special thanks to family friends, Johnette and Kelly Kobes for their much-appreciated help.
