Doctor Mack was an extraordinary example of how to live your faith for all Catholic Christians. He was an outstanding doctor who always gave his patients the best he had and he lived his life for Christ. I would see him at church every day, sometimes in multiple places. His profound faith was evident in everything he did. he did so much for the Catholic Church and our diocese. He knew how to get things done and he accomplished so much. His love for the Blessed Mother was something that was very evident to everyone who knew him. Thank you Dr. Mack for being such a great example of holiness in the world for the rest of us to follow. You have left your mark on many of us.

Dave taught me how to study in college, for which I will always be grateful. I will remember him most as a caring, holy man with a generous heart. His epitaph should read "well done, good and faithful servant".

My condolences and prayers to David's family. What a wonderful, humble, friend and Christian man he was. I met him when we were in college, and in summer he was home and lived down the farm road from his cousin and friend,my late and beloved husband ,Phil Haan. He and Elaine and Phil and I lived in Denver while Phil was recovering from Vietnam War wounds, and David was assigned to the US Army Hospital there.David came out of sick leave to attend Phil and we all spent a lot of time together that year. We continued to visit each other and stay in touch through the years.
Phil passed in 1990 and Elaine in 2002..I miss them all.. They are together now..

I have had just a few "brief" encounters with Dr. Mack at the Marian Center Store. As I became a Born again Catholic and grew a profound interest in the Virgin Mary I would quietly look at the statues and as I grew more interest Dr. Mack always was eager to teach me. We eventually talked more and one day talked about just coming in and spending the day learning from him. I feel lost I missed the opportunity when I learned Dr. Mack became ill. I certainly didn't anticipate he would soon no longer be with us. I miss Dr. Mack and I am very sorry for your loss, what a devout Catholic and Godly person he was. I learned so much in such a short time and I think of him often. I will continue to visit the store in hopes his presence will always be there looking down on us all. Thank you for your words of wisdom Dr. and may God always be with you!

I worked for Mr. Mack for several years in the 90s. He was truly a brilliant doctor and a wonderful human being. I remember him always thinking of others before himself and being a man who was truly humble.

My deepest sympathies to the family, of this most Christian of men, I have ever had the pleasure and honor to know.. As an Nurse here in Springfield, at both hospitals. I had the honor to work along side Dr Mack, many times.. He always had a smile, a kind word and a huge heart for all around him.. His patients adored him and that was ever so evident after each visit with them.. He was never too busy, to take the time to talk with you and explain his reasoning.. It was always a honor to hear his voice, every morning, when he made rounds on the floor.. He was one of those special people here on this planet, that I believe was sent by God.. May God bless his family and continue to watch over you..

I am so very sorry for the loss of Dr Mack. I started going to him in 1972, stayed with him until he retired. Loved his mannerism, he had a calmness that eased any anxiety you may have. Brilliant surgeon, wonderful man! May you memories get you through this difficult time and the days ahead.

I can't say enough about the wonderful man that Dr. Mack was. I first met him when he did surgery on both of my parents in the 80's, and then he was my orthopedist for 25 years. But he was so much more than a great doctor. He always had time to visit a little and ask how things were going, reminisce about my parents, and talk about what he and his family were up to also. It was a very sad day for me when he retired, but I was happy for him. It's now even sadder for me to know I'll never run into him somewhere. But I know his faith was strong and he is happy. My condolences to his family for you loss of this kind, wonderful man.

My condolences go out to the family of Dr.Mack. May he R.I.P. I met Dr. Mack years ago when I took a friend of mine for an appointment with him. Over the years I have conversations with him as well as seeing him in the office. He was a funny man, always making you smile. He was an excellent, doctor with very good bed side manners making you feel comfortable and relaxed when seeing him. He did a great job taking care of my friend over the year, very wise man. I am sure that Dr. Mack will be sadly missed by many family, friends, co-workers and patients. May God Bless him always.

I am so sorry for your loss. I just wanted you to know I remember how Dr Mack was involved with the children of CTK. I had a son and daughter that both received statues of the Blessed Virgin Mary from him. They both enjoyed displaying them in their rooms during those grade school years. I still have both statues tucked away in their old closets. They are both now successful adults with newborns of their own. I am planning on giving their daughters the statue when they are in grade school.
