I got to know Shirley and Don while working at Culbertson Gardens as well as the Coil family. They were an amazing couple. We often talked about his work at the Kroger Store. My family hunt deer and we process our own meat. Don spoke of wanting to give me something. One day, after cleaning out his Springfield home, he handed me his favorite butcher knife. I don't remember ever being more touched by a gift. Don would always help me come up with new-old quotes for my quote board. I loved his spirit and his sense of humor. My thoughts and prayers are with Sue and Mike and their families. Sincerely, Gayle Brough

He was one of my favorite bosses at Kroger. He was fair and he wanted the best for his employees. Mike and Pam, the Lawler's are thinking of you. Blessings. Anne (Sexton) Lawler

Very sorry to hear of Don's passing, I was his co-manager at Krogers in Springfield, both at the Clearlake and Wabash stores.

I worked for Don at the Kroger store on Clearlake Ave.(now Kmart) in the early 1970s. He was a kind and understanding man. Many years later I ran into Don at his home while working in the area. I reminded him of the positive experiences working for him. RIP Don.
