Frank Nizzi Obituary

Born in Naples, Italy, on January 6, 1918, to Guisippe and Maria Nizzi and raised in Fiumalbo, Italy, until the age of 8, when he then immigrated to the U.S. and resided in Highwood, IL. He was a proud World War II veteran who served in the Asiatic-Pacific with the 20th Air Force, 315th Bomb Wing and in the Aleutian Islands campaign with the 11th Air Force. He married his beloved wife Lillian Harju in February 1944 in Highland Park, IL and became a naturalized citizen in 1958. He resided in Pittsburg and Concord, CA since 1945 and moved to Paradise in 1978 after retiring from Monsanto Chemical Company.
Frank was an avid golfer from the age of 12 and scored his age at 81, and then made his first hole in one at age 84. He was also a faithful 49er fan. He will always be remembered for being a devoted father and husband and for the loving care and attention he gave his wife Lillian during her long illness. She preceded him in death in January of this year after 62 years of marriage.
He is survived by his daughter Marsha Nizzi of Paradise; son Dennis Nizzi and wife Carol of Everett, WA, granddaughter Tara Knudson of WA, grandson Mark Nizzi of CO, greatgrandson Tyler, sisters Doris Cashman of Vista; and Elsa Desantis of Walnut Creek; and many adoring nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Vanda.
He loved his Lord, family, house, yard and his faithful fox terrier Tippi and will be missed dearly. He and his wife will be interred together in Paradise, CA.

I was truly blessed to have such a wonderful and caring grandfather. His generosity, love and kind heart will always be remembered by many. I am the person I am today because of him and my grandmother, and their love knew no boundaries. I know deep in my heart that he is happy to be home with my grandmother, and my memories of them will forever be with me.

My grandfather was a great man, the kind of guy that every kid hopes to have for a grandpa. Every time I saw him when I was young, my heart and body raced with excitement. It was always a joy for me to see him and my grandmother.

Being a fully grown adult now (well mostly), I reflected much after his passing, and had wished I could have known him more as a person, than just an amazing grandfather. However, after speaking with many people who knew him, i don't think there was a difference from the caring, loving, generous, gentle man, that I knew, and who they knew. He was the same all around. Frank Nizzi....Grandpa, didn't have to put on a show for his grandkids, he was just the person he was, and i'll always respect that and admire the man he was, and i'll keep him close in my heart.

Here's to knowing you grandpa, I'm proud to have been your grandson.

Marsha and Dennis,

Words can't express the saddness I feel about Uncle Frank. He was such a great man and I will miss the "Nono" in him everytime I saw him. It was always amazing that when I came there....Nono was there too, in him. I have to smile as I think of Frank being with the love of his life right now, Lillian, and just think...he's with my Mom too! She loved him dearly as we all did. May God hold you in his arms during this difficult time. I can't express how sad I feel about this news. Uncle Frank will live forever in my heart. What a strong, kind, loving man he was! Thank you for calling me Dennis...hope you all enjoyed the gift basket. It was my pleasure to sent it to all of you. Should you need anything..you can always call me. I love you guys!!

Dear Marsha,

I had the opportunity to talk with both of your parents through the many years we have known each other. Your care and love for your Dad, particularly in more recent years, is a reflection of the greatness he instilled in his family. With my deepest sympathy.

Dear Marsha, Dennis and Nizzi family,

I was saddened to hear of Frank's passing and especially so soon, after Lillian's. They were both such special people and dear friends of my parents. When I was a child, they treated me like family. I will never forget Frank & Lillian's kindness to me & my Dad, when my own mother was hospitalized. Frank's devotion to Lillian, during her long illness shows the deep love they had for each other. Please know they are now together with the Lord...smiling down at the wonderful family they created.
