William Farwell Obituary

LINCOLN - William "Bill" L. Farwell, 63, of Lincoln died at 12 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007, at his home after a seven-monthlong battle with brain cancer.

Mr. Farwell graduated from Huntington Beach High School, Orange Coast Junior College and Pacific Christian College, all in California. He attended Lincoln Christian College and Seminary. Mr. Farwell had worked at Lehn and Fink and Grant City before retiring from Myers Industries in 2005 after 29 years of service.

Bill was born in Long Beach, Calif., on Nov. 29, 1943, the son of Leo W. and Valeta B. Negley Farwell. He married Beth Tanner on Nov. 27, 1970, in Medaryville, Ind., and she survives.

Also surviving are his two sons, Chad William Farwell and Eric Scott Farwell, both of Lincoln; two daughters, Kara Beth (Bart) Holzer of Mount Juliet, Tenn., and Lori Linda (Gabe) Rutledge of Mattoon; three grandchildren, Drake Thomas and Hadley BethAnn Rutledge, both of Mattoon, and Zane William Holzer of Mount Juliet; a sister, Janice Nelson of Huntington Beach, Calif.; and several nieces and a nephew in California and Washington.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

Mr. Farwell was an avid reader with a personal library of more than 2,000 books on history, theology, politics and psychology.

He was a charter member of Jefferson Street Christian Church where he taught an adult Bible school class for many years, was a past elder and served on many committees.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, at Jefferson Street Christian Church. Funeral services for Mr. Farwell will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007, at Jefferson Street Christian Church with Mr. Tom Ewald and Mr. Dustin Fulton officiating. Burial will be in New Union Cemetery in Lincoln.

Memorials may be made to Jefferson Street Christian Church or Lincoln Christian College and Seminary.

Peasley Funeral Home in Lincoln is in charge of arrangements.

Beth and children, Bill left a marvelous legacy in so many areas--his family, the contributions he made to JSCC, the friendships he honored, and his love for God's Word and applying that Word to today's world. May you find comfort in Christ's resurrection.
