William I. Gifford
SPRINGFIELD, IL - William I. Gifford, 80, died at 11:18 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 14, 2014, at his home in Springfield surrounded by family.
Bill was born March 21, 1934, in Springfield, the son of Franklin and Helen Ackerman Gifford. He married Nancy Jenkins on May 31, 1955, and they were the parents of Gregory and Karen.
Bill was a professional painter for many years in the Springfield area and was a member of Painters Local #90. He was an avid woodworker, golfer, bowler, and fisherman and was adept at all of them. Bill also enjoyed numerous trips with some of his closest friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his son, Gregory (Chris) Gifford, and his daughter, Karen (Ed) Luster, both of Springfield; three grandchildren: Frances Gifford, Mitchell Luster and Emma Gifford; two sisters, Shirley Duncan of Stockton, Calif., and Betty J. Gehlbach of Chatham; one brother, Thomas of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members who loved him, as well as dear friends.
Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.
Memorial Gathering: The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014, at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield.
Memorial Ceremony: Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014, at 12:30 p.m. at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home.
Burial will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors.

I know how much Papa meant to you and how much you meant to him. Every time you went to see him and check on him you could see him light up. I am so glad he had you in his life. He was an amazing man and I am grateful to have known him.
