Jesse Pollock Obituary

Jesse Benjamin Pollock, 84, passed away at Harborview Medical Center, following an accident at home. Surrounded lovingly by his family, he went peacefully to accept the promised reward of a well-lived life. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, February 24, 2007, at the Skagit Valley Church of Christ, 215 S. Gardner Road, Burlington, WA 98233.

Born June 3, 1922 in Meigs, Georgia, Jesse (JB) grew up in and around the southern part of Georgia. He spend time in the Civilian Conservation Corp. before joining the Navy on December 15, 1941. He married Mary Edith Cross December 12, 1941, prior to leaving for the Navy. He participated in many South Pacific battles ultimately receiving multiple medals, including the Navy Marine Corp Medal for heroism. Following the Navy, he joined his wife and children in Nooksack, Washington.

He worked for Puget Power as a meter reader in Skagit County, as well as a warehouseman in both Burlington and Poulsbo, Washington. Shortly after his retirement, he and his wife (Edith) of 60+ years moved back to the Mount Vernon area where they resided until her death in August 2003. In December 2004, he married Margie Millenaar, who brought him great happiness in his last years.

Following his discharge from the Navy, he turned his eyes toward Jesus. Nothing mattered more to him than serving his Lord. He was an active servant of the Lord in the church serving as a deacon or elder for many years wherever he lived. He also served on the board for Sauk River Christian Camp and Columbia/Cascade College. He and Edith were pioneers in helping handicapped children, forging their way through while fulfilling the needs of their own handicapped child through such organizations as Easter Seals long before there were support groups.

He is survived by his wife Margie; sons James (Ann) Pollock of Mount Vernon; Mark (Robyn) of Portland, Oregon; daughters Carol (Brian) Haferkorn of Snohomish; Leta Pollock of Mount Vernon; Teresa (George) Miller of Portland, Oregon; and Patches Bryan of Tampa Bay, Florida. He had 11 grandchildren: Neal, Brett (Jessica), and Brandi Pollock; Brina (Jason) Mathis, Jolene Haferkorn; Michael and Ellen Miller; Brandon (Lindsey) and Brycen Pollock; and Tamara (Rich) Kraus and Tera (Robbie) McDaris.
He also had 8 great-grandchildren; a brother, Curtis (Betty) of Arlington, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews, and the large extended family of Margie who treated him with great love.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Edith; his parents, two sisters, and a brother, as well as two great-grandchildren.

The family suggests remembrances be made to Cascade College in Portland, Oregon and can be sent in care of the Skagit Valley Church of Christ to be forwarded to Cascade College.

We want to thank Skagit Valley Hospital for their recognition of the need for more specialized care and a very special thank you to the doctors and nurses and entire staff at Harborview who were so living and caring through a very difficult week. You went above and beyond. We also want to thank Dr. Guilford Traylor for his attention and care over the past several years.

Arrangements were made through Skagit Cremation Services LLC of Mt. Vernon.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Pollock family in their time of grief. We love you guys!!
Jesse was a great man with a big hug, there was never a time that we saw him and didn't get a hug. He was a wonderful Christian man, who was always willing to share his love for the Lord and was committed to his family, who have also followed in his footsteps with a great love of the Lord.
We Love all of you and will miss Jesse greatly.
