OLE LINDBO Obituary

Ole Alfred Lindbo, Sr., 98, an extra-ordinary and special man, "one of the many of the greatest generation", passed away at his home in Anacortes on Sunday, January 20, 2013. An honorable and beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he left this world peacefully to meet his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

He was born to Andrew & Helga Lindbo on May 15, 1914 in Belfield, North Dakota. He was one of 10 boys and 3 girls. Raised on a farm in the badlands, he went on to graduate from Belfield High School.

During the depression he rode the rails with a friend, looking for work. He decided to join the Navy and stayed for 27 years.

Stationed in Chicago briefly, he met the love of his life in Marcella, and they were married within 6 weeks. They were told it would never last. Shortly thereafter, along came Kathy, Rick, Lorinda, Ole Jr. and the twins, Owen and Allen.

After being stationed at Whidbey Naval Air Station Ole and Marcie settled in Anacortes in 1962. They shared almost 50 years together, until Marcie became very sick. For 20 years Ole lovingly took care of his wife until she passed away. Shortly thereafter, he met and married Georgeanne Hopkins. She and her family from Deming helped to heal his broken heart and begin a new chapter in his life. After 11 years of marriage Georgeanne passed away from cancer.

Ole was much loved and a bright light to many, many people. He treasured his neighbors and many friends, along with his caregivers, Meredith and Barbara, who brought great joy to his life. The recent Hospice workers brightened up his last days even more. His family is also thankful for all of the doctors who showed such great care and compassion to Ole.

Ole is survived by his 6 children and their spouses, Kathy Warnokowski, Rick & Cathy Lindbo, Lorinda & Don Klein, Ole, Jr. & Debbie Lindbo, Owen & Paula Lindbo and Allen & Janet Lindbo; 2 brothers, Harry Lindbo of Tacoma and Eddie & Marian Lindbo of Minnesota; as well as many, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great number of extended family, all of whom will miss him.

The family suggests that if anyone wants to make a donation in Ole's memory, please choose one of your choice.

Visitation and viewing will be on Friday, January 25, 2013 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Evans Funeral Chapel in Anacortes.

The Funeral Service will be on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 1:00 PM at New Hope Christian Fellowship Church, 1319 35th Street in Anacortes, followed by interment at Fernhill Cemetery in Anacortes. After the interment there will be a reception held in the church.

Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., Anacortes, WA and the San Juan Islands.

Ole was my absolute treasure for 4 years of caregiving. He never had a bad word for or about anyone. His glass was half full right to the end. He loved company. He loved to laugh. He loved a good joke and we shared a few! He had the bluest, most sparkling eyes I ever saw. My sweet friend Ole forever. You are my hero, my greatest generation veteran.
