Lois Marie Murphy

1932 - 2023

Lois Marie Murphy, 91, longtime resident of Belmont, CA, passed away on September 30, 2023. She was born on September 10, 1932, in Stockton, CA, to Howard and Mary Edith Hansen. Lois graduated from Winters High School and lived in Winters, CA until she relocated to the Peninsula in 1966.

Lois was a caring and proud mother and grandmother who loved her family passionately.

She is survived by her children Lorraine (Daryl) Simmons, Lisa Lancaster, Richard (Karen) Lewis, Richard Ullrich, Carol (James) Peters, stepson Terry (Tina) Murphy, grandchildren Cody Simmons, Taylor Simmons, Sarah (Robert) Grover, Mesha (Josie) Lancaster, Colin (Krista) Azeltine, Rebekah Lancaster, John Peters, and great-grandchildren Alex, Franklin, and Forest Azeltine. Lois is also survived by her brother, Dale (Brenda) Hansen.

Lois was preceded in death by her husbands Thomas Lewis, Francis Ullrich and Joseph Murphy, her partner of several years Clifford Spence, as well as her brother Norman (Pearl) Hansen and grandson Sean Lancaster.

Lois dedicated her life to her family and was involved in her children's activities which included establishing the Belmont 4-H Club with her fellow neighbors. For the next 50 years she lovingly devoted a large part of her free time to her San Mateo County 4-H family. She also served on the San Mateo County Fair Board and the Cow Palace Board of Directors. Lois was a past President of the Mid Peninsula Republican Women and volunteered with the USO.

Lois was an accomplished pianist and during her children's early years volunteered her skills playing piano for the Belmont schools. Later in life she would find joy playing Pedro and Dominoes with her wonderful groups of friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on October 28, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. at the San Mateo County Event Center, Event Pavilion,1346 Saratoga Drive, San Mateo.

Lois Marie Murphy will be fondly remembered for her warm heart, dedication to her community and love for her family. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion and generosity that will continue to inspire others. Lois will be dearly missed by her friends and family.
