Ercelia CAHILL Obituary

CAHILL, Ercelia (Tudy) Granucci Tudy Cahill died peacefully, surrounded by her family, at Sonoma Valley Hospital on November 4, 2016. She leaves behind her loving husband of 65 years, Jim Cahill, and her two sons, Michael and Kevin. She is preceded in death by her youngest child, Molly Cahill Singleton, who died in 2015. Tudy also leaves behind her daughter-in-law Karen Cahill, sons-in-law Chip Lenno and Scott Singleton, grandchildren Chris Cahill and Maura Hagerman, and great-grandsons Sam, Mason, Sawyer, Emmet and Ephraim. She is also survived by her sister, Molly Thompson of Rohnert Park, and cousin Sylvie Thoelecke of Larkspur. Daughter of Yolanda and Gerald Granucci, Tudy was born on August 24, 1931, in Ross, California. Following her mother's death when she was only five, her father married Edith Granucci, who would become the Director of Nurses at Sonoma Valley Hospital. After Tudy married Jim in 1951, the couple moved to Sonoma to be near her parents and their ranch in Vineburg, where many fond memories were made with aunts, uncles, and cousins coming together every fall to pick grapes. During the 1950s and 1960s, Tudy taught Catechism at St. Francis Solano Church. She also loved playing tennis and was very active in the Sonoma Valley tennis community. A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 18, at 11 a.m. at Saint Francis Solano Church in Sonoma. In lieu of flowers, and in keeping with Tudy's wishes, memorial donations should be made to either St. Vincent De Paul in care of St. Francis Solano Church, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Mrs Cahill was one of those "Greatest Generation" moms who devoted themselves to raising us "Baby Boomers". I remember her as one of the moms who was always at St. Francis contributing her time for us kids. My heartfelt condolences to the Cahill family and my classmate Mike in particular for their loss.

Aunt Tudy represented a special relationship to our family, being Sylvia and Richard Granucci's double, first cousin as her sister 'Molly'. Her sense of humor and energetic involvements was very appreciated and now, sorely missed. But the memories DO live on...I can still hear her laughing at some obvious piece of logic that made life stranger than fiction: just can't make some stuff up. ;)
