Joan Marie Menard

1930 - 2015

Joan Marie Swan Menard passed away peacefully on October 20, 2015, in North Fort Myers, Florida, with loved ones by her side.
Joan was born June 28, 1930, in L'Anse, Michigan, to Karen and Allen Swan. She grew up in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, where she attended Sturgeon Bay High School until the end of her sophomore year when the family moved to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. She graduated from Sault High School with the Class of 1948.
As a young woman, Joan worked for Michigan Bell in Sault Ste. Marie and Traverse City. She married Robert Gerald (Jerry) Menard in 1964. Joan and Jerry raised their children in Appleton, Wisconsin. After retirement, they moved to North Fort Myers and spent summers in Wisconsin at their Sand Bay cottage, enjoying family and making many friends along the way. They were members of St. Therese Church in North Fort Myers.
Joan was an excellent cook and loved to entertain, especially at her Green Bay Packer game-day parties. She was generous to family and friends and fun to be around. She will be greatly missed.
Joan is survived by her son, John Menard and his wife Patti of Ramsey, Minnesota; daughter, Janet Menard of Appleton, Wisconsin; grandchildren: Jack, Abby, Brandon, and Britteni; great-grandchildren: Raiden and Kymberli; brothers: Jack Swan of Sault Ste. Marie and Dan (Sue Ann) Swan of Charlevoix; sisters: Nancy Darling and Barbara (Lou) Lisiecki of Sault Ste. Marie; sister-in-law, Shirley Swan of Naples, Florida, sister-in-law, Marlene McDermott of Philadelphia, brother-in-law, Marvin (Rose) Menard of Sault Ste. Marie; devoted friend, Gloria LaPlaunt of North Fort Myers; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Robert Swan, nephew Steven Swan, sister-in-law Hilkka Swan, brother-in-law Michael Darling, many dear aunts, uncles, and cousins, and by her husband Jerry Menard in July 2015.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
