SOUTH BEND - John E. Varga, 56, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2018. John was born on May 7, 1961 in South Bend, to Emery P. and Barbara J. (Pletcher) Varga. He is survived by one daughter, Nichole (Adam Carroll) Varga of South Bend, Indiana; one son, Tyris (Francesca) Varga of Osceola, Indiana; and three grandchildren, Arianna and Athena Alvarez, and Avabelle Varga. Other survivors include three sisters, Victoria (Paul) Ransberger of Indianapolis, Indiana, Susan (Mark) Pool of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Sandra (Brian) Souza of Granger, Indiana. John loved to fish and be in the outdoors. He enjoyed painting and cooking, especially creating his own recipes. John cherished time with his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, as well as the family dog, Molly. Visitation for John will be on Saturday, February 17, 2018 from 10:30 am until 11:30 am in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend, Indiana. A Funera Service will be held at 11:30 am in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph County Humane Society. Our deepest condolences to all of John's family. I sure wish I were able to make the trip to be with all of you. John has been a life long friend. We were classmates in Mrs. Willson's Kindergarten class and went to school together until we graduated in 1979 from La Salle High School. Through the years, though their has been many miles between us, we always maintained a close bond. We have always been the kind of friends that could tell each other the hard truths, the ones that you may not want hear, but know you needed. No matter the conversation we would always close with I love you buddy. I have a voicemail on my phone from February 2, and he ended the message that way. The one thing we knew was that though neither of us were perfect, we were friends. Thankfully we could both see through the flaws and call each other friend. I'm sure glad he was mine. John had the kind of personality that could make the sun shine on a cloudy day. He was a cup half full kind of guy. We will be celebrating John's life here. He will be dearly missed.
