MERRILL "PETE" McNEELY
ROCK HILL, SC. — Merrill "Pete" McNeely, 83, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Piedmont Medical Center following an extended illness.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lucille Mayse McNeely; sons, Gregory McNeely, and Gary McNeely; daughter, Melanie (James) Patterson; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Jo Sopher (Ira), Stella Jean Embrey (Jim), Judy Mullett (Sam), and Connie Taylor (James); two brothers-in-law: Dickie Judy and Bill Gribble; his dog, Houston, and several nieces and nephews.
Born May 22, 1932, at Ethel, W.Va., he was a son of the late G.H. and Tessie Shannon McNeely. He was also preceded in death by a son, Mark Patrick McNeely, as well as three sisters, Joan Carol McNeely, Joyce Gribble and Tressie Judy and a brother, Fred McNeely.
Pete was employed by Pittston Coal Company for 28 years. Upon moving to Rock Hill, he worked and retired from Community Cash Grocery Stores as the Assistant Produce Manager. Pete was a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America Local 1751. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Rock Hill as well as the Young at Heart Sunday school Class.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 20, at Evans Funeral Home and Cremation Services at Chapmanville, W.Va., with Reverend Henry Damron officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.
A visitation will be held prior to the service from 1-2 p.m.
