Bernard Weisenfeld Obituary

Bernard "Bernie" Mark Weisenfeld, age 78, died on November 21, 2022. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Bernie was raised in Lakewood, NJ. He received his bachelor's degree from Rutgers University and his master's degree from the University of Delaware. Bernie started his career teaching English at Deptford High School. He then followed his passion for journalism and became a news reporter with the Jewish Times in Philadelphia, then worked for the Gloucester County Times in Woodbury and later worked for the Courier-Post in Cherry Hill, NJ. Bernie continued his career with the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office as the Public Relations Officer. After retirement, Bernie enthusiastically volunteered with Habitat for Humanity which he thoroughly enjoyed. He devotedly followed his favorite Rutgers College sports teams. Bernie was an avid runner, cyclist and recently added pickleball to his exercise and fitness regimes. He had a lifetime passion for books and reading, which he loved to share with others. He also enjoyed cooking for friends and family, traveling and pampering his beloved pets. He was known by all that knew him for his kindness, sincerity and witty and quiet sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his wife Linda Elizabeth (Hitchins) and his parents Ida and Sol Weisenfeld. He is survived by his sister Nancy L. (the late Dr. Raymond) Owens, significant other, Ellen Garber, lovingly known as "Uncle Buddy" to his nieces and nephews Rebecca (Chris) Ensley, Matthew (Elizabeth) Owens, Sarah (Robert) Pratte, Rachel Owens (Carl Cunningham), nine great nieces and nephews, Brother-in-Law, Park III (Martha) Hitchins, Cousins, many good friends and colleagues and long-time friends Jeffrey and Vicki Bramnick. Friends may greet the family after 9am on Saturday, December 17, 2022 in the Budd Funeral Home, 522 Salem Ave, Woodbury, NJ. Memorial Celebration of Life will be at11am. I had the privilege of getting to know Bernie while I was an Assistant County Prosecutor and he was the reporter covering Gloucester County. He was not only professional but also a friendly gentleman. I enjoyed every interaction with him. He was one of the good guys.
