Robert Hill Obituary

Robert Hill, a youthful 76, known to all as Bob, and a lifelong resident of Brockton, departed this life on August 24, 2021, after a brief illness. Bob was a lover of Spaghetti Westerns, long walks, and watching all sporting events on TV. Bob loved watching his Sox and was a Little League coach in his younger days. Although he was a man of few words, he enjoyed catching up with and helping his neighbors, and he had a deep fondness for working in his garden and attending to his hens. He enjoyed spending time with his sister, friends, children, and grandchildren, whom he adored. Bob enjoyed fishing and hunting in his younger years and was known for cutting a mean rug in his youth. Elvis was his go-to songster. His favorite tune was "Peace in the Valley", which he often requested during his final days. And if you listen to the lyrics, there is no song more poignant for this season in one's life. Bob had the good fortune to rekindle a childhood friendship in his later years, which then turned into a romance with the special lady in his life, Cheryl. Every Saturday morning, Bob drove to Holmes McDuffy florist and purchased a single red rose for his love to express his affection for her and celebrate their new lease on life. Cheryl and Bob spent many happy years puttering around the yard together in the sunshine, sitting by their outdoor fireplace, enjoying time with friends at the Samoset Rod and Gun Club, where he was a lifetime member, and the 49ers Club in Bridgewater. Bob had many visitors who dropped by to share memories and laughs about "the old days" or sit quietly, enjoying his company one last time. Bob had lived through some personally challenging times and experienced profound loss. He faced this greatest challenge with grace and strength throughout. A testament to the man Bob was. Although it's never easy to say goodbye to a loved one, all in all, it was a peaceful end to a life well-lived. Bob had asked that you remember him as he was to you when he was well. Bob is survived by his partner, Cheryl Walcott of Brockton, his daughter Mary Davis, son Joey Hill, grandchildren Alexa Hill, Jay Davis, and Jordan Davis, his sister Gail Hatch and brother-in-law David Hatch, his aunt Gladys Bearse, and many cousins. One of whom was like a brother to him, Ralph Honeywell. Bob was predeceased by sons Bobby and Mikey Hill. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Old Colony Hospice, 321 Manley St., Bridgewater, MA 02379. For online guest book, www.chapmanfuneral.com.
