William Mostyn Obituary

William "Bill" Joseph Mostyn Jr., of Eastham, formerly of Abington, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2021. William was the devoted husband of Catherine (Lord) Mostyn who predeceased him in 2005. He was the loving father of William Joseph Mostyn III and his wife Sandra of Quincy, his son Richard Mostyn of North Eastham, his daughter Mary Lambert of Bridgewater, his daughter Anne Bernazzani and her husband Eric of Abington and his son John Mostyn of West Roxbury. He was also the loving grandfather of Jesse Lambert and his wife Debora of Harwich, Patrick Mostyn of Everett, William Joseph Mostyn IV and his wife Alison of Quincy, Daniel Bernazzani of Bedford, Timothy Bernazzani of Abington and Scott Bernazzani of Abington. He was the adoring great-grandfather of Sophia and Tessa Mostyn of Quincy. He is also survived by his sister Virginia O'Donnell of Quincy and many nieces and nephews. William was born April 12, 1922, in Passage West, County Cork, Ireland, to William Joseph Mostyn Sr. and Catherine (Cotter) Mostyn. He was born in Ireland and emigrated to the United States with 6 siblings and his mother by a weeklong sea journey to meet their father who had emigrated previously. William grew up with his family in South Boston, where his music loving family hosted many parties full of Irish music and songs which invoked so many happy memories for him. After high school he worked in the Charlestown Shipyard but as the U.S. entered World War II, he enlisted with his friend to the Naval Air Corps. Near the end of the war he was stationed at the South Weymouth Air Base where he met his future bride Catherine Lord. William and Catherine settled in Abington while he started his family, worked at the Industrial Accident Board and graduated from Northeastern Law School. William and his young family moved to Wollaston and remained there for several years as their family began to grow. The family then moved to Abington, where William opened his own law practice and worked as the Veteran's Agent for the Town of Abington, a position he held for nineteen years. William was also the head of the town Democratic committee, a member of the St. Vincent DePaul, the Knights of Columbus and a faithful communicant of St. Bridget's Church in Abington and the Our Lady of Lourdes in Wellfleet. Upon retirement Bill and Catherine moved permanently to the Eastham home that they owned. Bill and Catherine enjoyed retirement on Cape Cod, wintered in Naples, Fla., and travelled extensively all over the world. For the remainder of his life, Bill continued to travel, bowl, golf, walk, read, attend Holy Cross College football games, swim and spend as much time with his family, who were the center of his world. A private memorial service will be held at Sullivan Funeral Home, Rockland, Thursday, February 25, 2021, then a private Mass at St. Bridget's Church followed by a burial at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Rockland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the South Shore Habitat for Humanity, 20 Mathewson Drive, Weymouth, MA 02189 or the Home for Little Wanderers, 10 Guest Street, Boston, MA 02135. Uncle Bill was my favorite uncle. I especially remember our last visit, when I spent the night at his home on Cape Cod. We talked about Mostyn ancestors, and we talked about how much he loved and missed his wife. Auntie Kit was a favorite of mine, too. We talked about his immediate family and mine. He shared so much love. We talked about swimming. I look at my old family photos and see him there with so much love. You all were lucky to have had him for a father. He was so proud of you all.
