Matthew OConnell Obituary

Matthew OConnell, of Quincy, originally of Olean, NY, passed away unexpectedly at home, April 4, 2016. He was the most loving husband to his wife of 36 years, Mary (Collins) OConnell of Quincy, and an amazing father of Matthew J. of Plymouth, Elyse M. of Quincy, Catherine M. Cafro of Quincy and the late John Okie OConnell. He was the beloved son of the late John V. and Frances M. (Bean) OConnell; the loving brother of Kevin J. (Susan) of PA, Thomas J. (Beth) of Michigan, Mary Jane Duffy (Paul) of Duxbury and the late Maureen OConnell. He was the loving son-in-law of Dorothy E. and the late James P. Collins of Charlestown; brother-in-law of James P. (Mary) Collins of South Boston, Kevin J. (Kathleen) Collins of NH, Maureen A. Collins of South Boston, Margaret A. Collins of Milton, Eileen M. (Richie) Paris of Hyde Park, Stephen M. (DeAnna) Collins of Marlboro, Anne Marie Collins of Milton and Dennis X. (Patricia) Collins of Reading. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Dad was a life long coach to his children, not only on the basketball courts, but also in life, its values and morals. He loved to spend his free time being a handy man. He loved his Dunkin Donuts coffee, gardening, spending time at his and his daughters bakery, doing projects from fixing our cars, painting the house and building his patio and fire pit. Dad was the hardest worker, always committed to the job and tasks at hand, but most importantly he was committed to our family. Dad was the perfect husband. Dad and mom were best friends. They had a bond like no other as they went everywhere and did everything together (Yes Dear). He was the perfect father, role model and man. Dad will be deeply missed by many and will never be forgotten. Heroes get remembered but legends never die. We love you dad. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday 4-8 p.m. in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., Quincy. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. prior to the funeral Mass in St. Anns Church, Quincy at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy.
