Darlene WERNZ

Darlene Rae Reedy Wernz passed away on May 15, 2023, at the age of 85 surrounded by her three children, Michael Wernz (Michael Nestor), Spokane, WA, Michelle Wood (Gary), Clear Lake, WA, Gregory Wernz (Bobbi) Fairfield, WA.

Besides her three children, Darlene is survived by four grandchildren, Jacob Kagele, Levi Wernz (Chelsea), Salena Wernz, and Cassandra Hulse (Dylan), and three great-grandchildren, Kennedy Wernz, Boyd Wernz, and Clayne Hulse.

Darlene was born at St. Luke's Hospital to Garner Charles (GC) Reedy and Edith Alice Felgenhauer. She is preceded in death by both her parents and her sister Carol Reedy Keno.

Darlene was an active member of the Fairfield community, participating in the Fairfield Players and Harry's Girls, and teaching Sunday School at Fairfield First Presbyterian. She was also a Worthy Advisor and a Mother Advisor for the Rainbow Girls, and a board member of the Museum of Arts and Culture in Browns addition, the State Board Deaconess Auxiliary, and the Fairfield Museum (Southeast Spokane County Historical Society).

Darlene was passionate about Flag Day, starting with building floats in her father's shed for the Homemakers Club. In her later years, she built floats to display the US Flag and 50 State Flags. She was enormously proud to take this float not only to local towns but also to the Spokane Lilac Parade and Butte Montana.

Her hobbies included sewing, gardening, and baking. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and she hosted many pool parties with no shortage of libations.

Darlene will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Her memory will live on through the many lives she touched.

The family invites you to a celebration honoring the life of Darlene on Saturday, June 10th from 12:00 to 2:00 in the lower park following the Fairfield Flag Day Parade in Fairfield, WA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Fairfield Museum.
