Donald CAPSTICK Obituary

Donald Oliver Capstick, age 82, of Spokane passed away on August 13, 2025. He was born on November 16, 1942, in Sitka, Alaska, to Robert and Freda Capstick. He graduated from Southwest High in St. Louis, Missouri, and attended two years of college at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington, before entering the military. Donald served in the United States Air Force for four years from 1962. Two of his four years in active duty were served overseas in the Philippines. After his discharge from the military, he completed his degree in Geology. He moved to Missoula, Montana, where he began his career as a field Geologist for the Forest Service. He continued his service in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and Cody, Wyoming. In 1979, he moved to Spokane to accept a position with the U.S. Bureau of Mines, where he worked until his retirement in 1995. Donald enjoyed working with computers and was an avid reader. He was devoted to his Australian Terriers. He enjoyed spending time with his friends, especially those from his Bureau of Mines days. Donald was also a proud member of the Spokane German American Society. His family and friends will always remember him as a caring person. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Suzanne; his sister, Kay Stewart; niece, Sky Stewart; great-niece, Lily Rose Stewart; many cousins, and his extended family in Germany, Arne Oelkers and Juliane Steinicke, together with their children, Jonathan and Kristina. He was preceded in death by his parents. His funeral service is scheduled for 11 am on August 30, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 5720 S. Perry St., in Spokane, with a reception following.
