Gretchen GEORGE Obituary

Gretchen Amelia George entered into rest on June 3rd, 2021. She was born on June 4, 1942 to John and Kathryn George in Spokane, WA. She was the middle of 3 children. Gretchen graduated from Lewis & Clark High School. She married Don Black and the couple had four children. After their divorce, Gretchen worked multiple jobs to help support her children. A second marriage took Gretchen and three of her kids to Albuquerque, NM and then on to Appleton, WI. After 5 years away from Spokane, she returned and subsequently became an active member at Unity Spiritual Center where she'd eventually become a chaplain. She enjoyed that role for a few years until a stroke in 2012 took her on a different course. Gretchen found joy in gardening, books, anything related to Great Britain, and her close friends and family.

Gretchen is preceded in death by her parents, John C. George and Kathryn Orr, step parents T. Mac Orr and Peg George, and sisters Molly and Harriet George.

She is survived by her 4 kids and their spouses, Cary Black (Gretchen) of New Orleans, Julie Kaufman (James) of Camano Island, WA, Kris Youmans (Vance) of Cheney and Pete Black (Wendy) of Spokane. She also leaves behind 12 grandchildren.

Due to the pandemic, no memorial will be held at this time. The family would like to thank Bess Quality Care, Emilie Court ALF and At Home AFH for the care of our mother for the past 9 years.
