Jacqueline GRAMLOW Obituary

Jacqueline Byington Gramlow, 81, passed away in her sleep on March 29, 2022, at her home of 62 years in Spokane, WA.

Jacquie was born July 6, 1940, in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, to Myrl Smith Byington and Kathlyn Irene Steele, their only child together.

She attended Mead High School graduating in 1958 and received a scholarship to Kinman Business College to study bookkeeping.

When she was 20, she met David Eugene Gramlow at a church dance, fell in love and they married in the Salt Lake Temple on November 11, 1960. They had four children together, raising 3 into adulthood while emphasizing hard work, creativity, and integrity. 47 years of marriage were celebrated before his passing in January 2008.

Jacquie worked as a bookkeeper most of her life, either as an employee, self-employed with Grannie's Bookkeeping, or helping with the family businesses - the 160-acre carrot farm and fireplace insert & pellet stove manufacturing.

Many years were spent volunteering with Orchard Prairie cemetery, Daughters of Utah Pioneers, election board, local political caucus, reunion committee, symphony, museum, and school parent booster. She served faithfully in various positions as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Interests included genealogy & family history, reading, sewing, crafts, music, and local history. She tried to impart her love of family history by taking the grandkids on an annual Memorial Day tour of local cemeteries and visiting family gravesites. Growing up with a birthday near Independence Day, she developed a strong sense of patriotism and willingly shared it with others. And anyone driving by her property in the fall would know which political candidates she supported. She was known for her love of country, family, and friends and for not mincing words.

She was preceded in death by her husband David, infant son Eugene, parents and siblings Charlene, Bob, and Tricia.

She is survived by her son, Shaune Gramlow, Spokane; daughter Kathleen (Brian) McMackin, Denver; daughter Samantha (John) Carter, Spokane; and her grandchildren, Audrey Carter, Mariska (Tyler) Degenstein, Brianna McMackin, Dakota (Maddy) Gramlow, James McMackin, Cameron McMackin, and Cheyenne Gramlow.

A graveside service will be held at 3 pm on Wednesday, April 13 at Orchard Prairie Cemetery.
