James DOHERTY Obituary

James Patrick Doherty II, known to many as "Jimmer," passed away peacefully on March 15, 2025, in Spokane, WA, at the age of 77. Born on February 20, 1948, in Berkeley, CA, Jimmer lived a life full of adventure, passion, and generosity.

A graduate of St. Jerome's Grammar School and St. Mary's College High School (Class of 1966), Jimmer continued his education at the University of California, Davis. He went on to become a respected flower and herb specialist, sharing his deep knowledge and love for plants with those around him.

Jimmer had an unshakable passion for sports, playing basketball and football in high school and later passing that love on to his children by coaching baseball and basketball. He was not only an athlete but also an activist, deeply involved in the anti-war movement of the 1960s and 70s, marching for justice and even being arrested on multiple occasions for standing up for his beliefs.

A true adventurer, Jimmer found joy in traveling, especially throughout Mexico, where he created lasting memories and friendships. He was a gifted storyteller, an intelligent and giving man, and a father who instilled wisdom and kindness in those he loved.

A free spirit at heart, Jimmer was an active member of the Rainbow Family, embracing its values of peace, love, and community. He found solace and connection in the gatherings, where he formed lifelong friendships and shared his wisdom, kindness, and generosity with those around him.

Jimmer is survived by his beloved mother, Norma (99); his sisters, Kitty (79) and Mary (68); and his brothers, Bill (72) and Joe (66). He leaves behind his cherished children: son, Beau (55); and daughter, Esperanza (32); along with Jude, Justin, Josue, and Clint, who were blessed to be a part of his life. His legacy lives on through his grandchildren, Keeley, Zen, Aurora, Hector, and Liam. He was preceded in death by his father, James, and his sister, Joan.

A celebration of life to honor Jimmer will be held at Kettle River/Barstow Grange at 2 pm March 29th. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice in his memory.

Jimmer's spirit, passion, and generosity will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
