Jonathan McMAHON Obituary

December 5, 1969 - Feburary 15, 2025

It is with much sadness that we announce the untimely passing of our son Jonathan. He was diagnosed many years ago with a few life-altering medical problems. Jon was born at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, DC, on December 5, 1969. As a child, the family moved to the Spokane area in June 1978, where Jon would put down his roots. He graduated from Medical Lake High School in 1987. He then went to Eastern Washington University, where he majored in music and was the drum major for the EWU marching band. Jon was a natural-born musician excelling in piano and flute. He also provided music lessons to students. He played piano at every family function and entertained people his whole life with his talent. He also worked in the administrative field for 20 years. When his body finally gave out on him, Jonathan moved to the Ridpath Club Apartments. As a family, we wish to extend our many thanks to the staff at the Ridpath for always helping Jonathan. He was preceded in death by his brother Thomas McMahon Jr. (Vancouver, WA), survived by his parents Tom and Roberta McMahon (Medical Lake, WA), two nephews, Zach (Spokane, WA) and Jacob (Kalama, WA). A celebration of life will be held in the spring and posted on Facebook with a date and time.

I have sadly been out of touch with Jon for so many years after moving to Texas, but have thought about him often and tried to locate him online SO many times with no luck. I tried again today and have stumbled upon this sad news. We were such good friends in college, and I have so many fond memories of the laughs and struggles of that age with my best friend Jon. I'm still digesting the fact that I missed my opportunity to see him again, but want his family to know my thoughts are with all of them. I send warm thoughts from Portland.

I am so sorry to hear about Jon. From church and youth group, to college, and seeing Jon at the club when Rick and I were getting married, he was always the kindest and most fun to be around. Rick and I speak about him often. I will miss his loving heart ang beautiful soul. So sorry you are going through this. Much love to you both.

Long rides on the school bus together, beautiful music at my wedding, and partners in crime at the Buckhorn in Airway Heights. So sad to hear the news. You will be missed.
