Mathew HELEAN Obituary

(Age 58)

"Matt" Helean passed away at home in Spokane, WA, on February 6, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his mother, Joy Helean; father, Dick Helean; and brother, David Jacobs.

Born in Spokane May 25, 1966, Matt attended Roosevelt Elementary, Sacajawea Junior High, Lewis & Clark High School, and graduated from R.E.A.L. High School. He spent much of his life working in landscaping, remodeling, and various other projects, taking great pride in his work. His meticulous attention to detail and dedication to perfection were evident in everything he did.

A man of strength, generosity, and love, Matt enjoyed time spent golfing, fishing, and engaging in sports with family and friends. He was known for his willingness to give, whether it was the shirt off his back or his last $10 to someone in need. His stories were rich with life experiences and wisdom, and his joy came from spending time with the people he loved.

Matt is survived by his wife, Cheryl; children, Tori Helean (Michael), Brandon Wendt (Mandi), and Bryan Alford (Lesa); siblings, Rick Helean (Jeanie), Sheri Denlinger (Wayne), Philip Helean (Mary), Trina Helean, Denise Finden (Les); and four grandchildren-Harper, Beckett, Bodie, and Berkley-as well as many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Matt's life will be held on May 25, 2025, at Manito Park, from 3-7pm. Family and friends are welcome to join in sharing memories of this truly remarkable man. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

I am so sorry to hear this. Matt used sit next to me at Roosevelt in the 6th grade and talk to me and get us both into trouble- to the point where both of us were put into the middle of the room for everyone to look at us. He was a good kid and kind friend in High School.
