Maxine DAVIS Obituary

Maxine Marie Maxwell Davis, 81, a devout Catholic, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2021. She was a voracious learner and educator, attending St. Leonard's Church Catholic School before graduating from Monessen High School in 1958, and obtaining her undergraduate degree from Slippery Rock University in 1962. She then moved to California and received her master's in 1965, from Chaffee College in Rancho Cucamonga, CA while she worked as an educator. She then "settled" in the state of Washington. It was here she would go on to achieve her proudest accomplishments at Eastern Washington University, where she taught and retired in 2000. She was inducted into the EWU Hall of Fame. After Maxine retired from EWU in 2000, she did not stay retired long before teaching professionally once again, this time at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA. Although she laid down her roots in Washington, Maxine was a wild spirit who traveled the globe, collecting as many experiences and lessons as one could pack into a single life! Her hobbies ranged from racing Jeeps semi-professionally to continuing her family's tradition of breeding award winning sport-hunting English pointers. Whatever Maxine did in her years, translated to her passion of giving others what she knew. Maxine was a long life educator, teaching health, gymnastics and first aid. She was a published author for first aid practices used to educate first responders and firemen, and she didn't miss an opportunity to let others know that her students were her students for life. Preceding her in death was her husband, Dale Davis; and her parents, the Honorable Dr. H. J. Maxwell and Idalee Roberts Maxwell. She is survived by her brother, Hubert John Maxwell; nieces, Lisale Maxwell-Pavlic and Terijo Maxwell; great-nephew, Thomas Michael Erhardt; great-niece, Elaina le Calderone; and great-great-niece, Ayla Marie Lockhart. The family has decided to honor her wishes to abstain from a public funeral service and they will have a memorial service at a later date. If desired, friends may make memorial contributions to Eastern Washington University, 525 Fifth St., Cheney, WA 99004. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to JAMES C. STUMP FUNERAL HOME INC., 580 Circle Drive, Rostraver Township, PA 724-929-7934, www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com.Maxine Marie Maxwell Davis

Memeorial Mass for Maxine will be at St. Mary Presentation Church on Friday November 19 at 10:00 AM, 602 East 6th Street, Deer Park, WA 99006.

Max, I miss being able to call and talk with you. We had so many long dustance calls. You in Washington, me in the Carolina´s.
I smile when I remember both our High School ( MHS) and College (SRU´) days together.
You left us much too soon , but I will forever be thankful for our friendship.
Rest in Peace, until we meet again.

Max & I were good friends at Monessen High School (class of 1958) then we furthered our education at Slippery Rock University graduating in 1962. Remained friends for years and years. Spoke with her a few months before her passing. I will always have memories of her and our frequent phone calls from her home in Washington and mine in North Carolina.
R.I.P. dear "mitey Max". Hugs & Love.....

Maxine was a great friend and colleague. I met Max in 1981 and shared many life adventures with her. She was always on the move and hard to keep up with. She was always immaculately dressed and loved a bargain. She had a beautiful giving spirit. Go in peace with much love, my friend. Gods blessings to her family & many friends who will miss her.

It was always fun to work with Maxine for her dance camps at EWU. I looked forward each summer to see Max in fast forward mode.
