Merle GILMORE Obituary

GILMORE, Merle E.

Merle E Gilmore of Spokane, WA passed away October 11, 2016.
Merle was born May 9, 1918 in Chewelah, WA. He served in the Army, in the Pacific, during WWII. Merle married his high school sweetheart, Dolores Kaiser in San Francisco on November 16, 1942. After the war, Merle and Dolores lived in Spokane, WA where he worked for the U.S. Post Office, retiring as Postmaster of Veradale, WA in 1980. They raised their six children in Spokane Valley and were lifelong members of St. John Vianney Catholic Church.
Merle enjoyed gardening, golfing, and volunteering at the church. One of his proudest accomplishments was building the family home that they lived in for over 50 years. He was a wise and patient man with an incredible sense of humor. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed; his memory will live on in our hearts.
Merle was preceded in death by his son, Jerry Gilmore, his seven brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Dolores, and his children: Janet Gilmore (Susan Bracken) Denver, CO, Karen Gilmore (Cindy Vig) Loon Lake, WA, daughter-in-law Marietta Gilmore, Chandler AZ, Shari Peplinski (Mike) Newman Lake, WA, Sandi Durrant (Brien), Valleyford, WA, Michele Page (Sheldon) Auburn WA, ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff at Guardian Angel Homes in Liberty Lake, WA and Hospice for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Spokane, PO Box 2215, Spokane, WA 99210-2215 or the Neil Kaiser (Merle's nephew) GoFundMe account or a charity of your choice.
A Rosary will be held at 7:00pm October 16, at Hennessey Funeral Home, 1315 N. Pines Rd., Spokane Valley. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am on October 17, at St. John Vianney Church, 503 N. Walnut Rd., Spokane Valley.
