Richard BROWN Obituary

July 17, 1944 - May 25, 2024

Green Valley - Richard Frank Brown, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on the 25th of May, 2024 at his home in Green Valley, Arizona, at the age of 79. He was born on the 17th of July, 1944, in Seattle, Washington, to the late Frank and Beatrice Brown.

He is survived by his cherished wife of 58 years, Peggy, and his children: Valerie Parrish (Jerry), Rich Brown (Christy), and Lori Brown. He is also survived by his siblings: Bob Brown, Marilyn Mattick, and Sharon Green. He was extremely proud of his nine grandchildren and always wanted updates on their lives.

Richard lived in the Spokane, Washington, area for most of his life, attending St. Augustine's School for grades 1-8, followed by Lewis & Clark High School. He attended Eastern Washington University, Notre Dame College (Canada), Gonzaga University, and Whitworth College and earned a master's degree in counseling. He was a dedicated and well-known teacher and school counselor in Spokane. His passion was helping students and families in need.

He was a talented carpenter and spent a great deal of time building friends' outdoor decks and remodeling homes over the years. His greatest accomplishments were building a guitar and a home, almost single-handedly, on Silver Lake. After he retired, Richard started mastering the game of bridge and went on to play in bridge tournaments and teach classes up until his death.

Richard was a devout sports enthusiast and spent a great deal of time watching his favorite professional and college sports teams, especially University of Washington and Washington State University. As soon as a grandchild was admitted into a college, he became a new fan of their football and basketball teams. Richard and Peggy enjoyed traveling, especially to Hawaii and going on cruises.

A Celebration of Life will be held in September in Spokane. Donations in Richard's honor may be made to your local Boys & Girls Club.

Dear Daddy:

We had a complicated relationship, but in the end, we were very close and spent many hours together with holiday dinners at my house and visiting each other.

I believe that you quickly learned that heaven is real and every sign you gave us was appreciated and met with tears. Spirits live forever...

We miss you and hope you can continue to guide us and protect us from above and especially somewhere over the rainbow...

Love you Daddy.

I never met Richard, but did talk to him a few times on the phone. He worked with my husband, Chuck Schaffer, for many years at Lewis and Clark High School and was so good to keep in touch with Chuck after his retirement. Both Chuck and I appreciated that. Thank you. Rest in peace.

Mr. Brown was my favorite teacher at Garry Jr High. Although we butted heads a few times, he always pushed us to succeed. RIP

I am so sorry to read about Dick passing. I remember him vividly from St. Augustines grade school graduating in 1958. He and brother Bob were two great friends. Rest in peace, Dick.........you have earned it.

Dad never liked to talk about his own feelings and problems, but he was always willing to listen to others.
