Robert TULLY Obituary

Bob Tully left us unexpectedly on August 5, 2024, surrounded by his family. Bob was born in Spokane, Washington, the third child of Ray and Marian Tully. Bob spent many summers at Silver Lake with family and friends. He graduated from Gonzaga Preparatory School where he made lifelong friends. Bob was very athletic, playing baseball football, and basketball at Prep. He and his Prep friends continued to meet regularly and had great camaraderie. Bob joined the Great Northern Railroad in 1963, which later merged into the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad. He had a long career at the railroad where he earned the nickname "The Senator" due to his gift of gab. Bob read the newspaper every day. He told his children that you need to be able to talk to a variety of individuals you meet and knowing what is going on in the world will help. He would talk to anyone. Bob married Peggy Reedy in 1964 and had two children, Shawn and Shannon. Bob and Peggy divorced in 1984. He later married Pam Ennis in 1994, and they enjoyed 30 years together. He retired from the railroad in 2004. At an early age, Bob became interested in hot rods. He became a member of The Dukes Auto Club in 1964. He built many relationships with his Duke friends, scouting for cars, fixing cars, and going to rod runs. Cars became a lifelong hobby for him. Over the last few years, Bob drove his 1932 Ford Victoria to Victoria, British Columbia for Northwest Deuce Days. Bob loved living at Diamond Lake and being near the water. He enjoyed the small-town feel of knowing one's neighbors and small gatherings. He especially loved having his grandkids visit. Bob would drop everything to be with the kids, playing in the water and fishing with them. He was young at heart and it was best seen when he was with his grandchildren.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Marian Tully; his sister, Nadine Tully Boni; his brother, Jim Tully; and his stepdaughter-in-law, Kirsten Ennis. He is survived by his wife, Pam Tully; his sister, Rose Tully Brock (Chuck); his children, Shawn (Cindy) Tully, and Shannon (John) Abernathy; stepsons, Gordon Ennis and Shawn (Angie) Ennis; grandchildren, Natalie Abernathy, Violet Abernathy, Kylee Ennis, Connor Ennis, Kaleb Ennis, Brayden Ennis, Cole Ennis, and Kiera Ennis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church, 3520 E. 18th Ave., Spokane, WA, on September 5, 2024, at 11:00 am with a reception immediately following. The family will celebrate with a private burial in Sprague Washington at a later date.

Bob and I worked on the Old GN, BN and BNSF together. He wa a fun braking partner. Always up beat, and just fun to be around.
You beat me to the big trainyard in the sky, but hope to see you there.
