Susan OLSEN Obituary

Susan Marie Olsen, a long time resident of Colbert, passed away at home on August 25th 2022 peacefully after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her husband Arnim Olsen who passed May 30th 2014. Susan is survived by her three children, daughter Brandi Martzen (William) of Colbert, daughter Amber Pond of Camas Washington and son Jeremiah Bates of Spokane Valley, eight grandchildren and one great grandson, a sister, Sharon Jochum of Bryson City NC, one niece and one nephew and several great nieces and nephews.

Susan was born in San Diego, California on January 11th, 1954 to Jacqueline Pritchard and Ronald Dunkelberger.

Sue, as she liked to be called, worked for The Spokane Humane Society and became the animal educator where she would visit local schools and nursing homes with her dogs to teach children about animals and animal care as well as visit with the elderly. She opened her own dog grooming and boarding business in addition to training and showing dogs. Later in life she became a home health care aide until her health forced her to retire.

Sue loved the simplicity of life on the farm, where her and Arnim would raise beef cattle and harvest the land. One of her favorite pastimes was to travel on the back country roads to find the perfect fishing hole.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The Family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Spokane Humane Society in her memory.
