Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Christoff Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,
Charlie Gili & Family

To the family of Sgt. David R. Christoff:
Please know that just as your loved one remains in your hearts and minds; his sacrifice, and that of your family, remains with the people he died defending. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel for his bravery and selflessness, or the heartache we feel for your loss. God bless and keep you always.

To David's family and friends ( especially Branden),
I think of David often. I cry every time I see something that would touch or be unsettling to his family. I have his picture on my desk. I often speak of him as my grandson's godfather. Bray did not know him but knows him from the memories that Branden and Patsy keep alive and real for him. I admire Amy every time I see her. I appreciate the affection you have shown to Branden and Patsy's family. I can only image how David would have added to Bray and now Ella's personalities. Our love and prayers are with all of you. I thought all of Sunday about you.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know David, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

My Deepest Sympathy to The Christoff Family
Donald Begley
December 24, 2007
My deepest sympathies. I did not know your son, but he was a Marine, and that's good enough for me. Being a retired Marine, it hurts me deeply whenever we lose a military member, and it feels a little closer to home when it is a fellow Marine from Ohio. Be comforted in knowing that Americans love our Marines and we really will never forget your/their sacrifice.

Dear relatives of David, my son SSGT Russell J. Verdugo is buried in Arlington National Cemetery along with your hero. I took some photos last Memorial Day Week-end 2007 and have a photo of your David’s grave site and marker. If you would like a copy emailed to you, please let me know. I know we are so very proud of our fallen heroes, but we miss them so.
In loving remembrance of our heroes!

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

“Paid in Full”
To Honor The Service of Fallen and Injured Marines
Marines through and through, they paid the price
Six thousand miles away, we live the life
For which they paid with their blood, spirits and bodies
We will never forget what they paid in full
We hope and we pray that somehow their loved ones find comfort
In God, in the flag, in the memory of their loved ones’ bravery
They’re gone now but we see them still…proud, strong, willing
Covering each other’s backs… courageous, moving forward
What kind of love did they have for us to be willing
To give it all for the Black, White, Jew, Christian, Muslim?
We don’t comprehend but we honor you now and forever
You are Our Marines…some living…some not
Forever in our hearts we will cherish your lives
Lives too short yet immortal they’ll be
Highest brotherhood of the Few, the Proud
They stand at attention, and we gaze with awe
Some know their names not, but our admiration for them
Flows limitless within us, between us
They sacrificed their limbs or their lives
Freedom still rings, a soft sound across the miles
It tolls slowly; all of creation takes note
Of the lives that were lost for people unknown
Out of sight but not lost; forever among us
The starched blues marching straight
Toward the place where we will meet them
Many years from now…how we loved them…
Well done beloved Brothers and Sisters…You’ve paid it in full
Always Faithful Marines, You Have Paid it in Full

The family of Sgt David Christoff,
I served along side your son in Iraq in 2004-2005. He will be missed greatly by the people who knew him. I was reminded by him today when I saw a fellow Marine, with a rememberance bracelet with Sgt David Christoff engraved on it. David left a lasting impression on me and from reading all these notes, talking to 1/3 alumni and meeting people like the fellow Marine mentioned above, your son will be remembered by everyone as well. He always put others first, and that is one reason why he was so appreciated. Your son is not just a great Marine, he is a great person.

To the family-
It's been a month now, and I'm sure you're hurting still the amount we are. (I'm William Leusink's sister.) I'm not sure when we'll feel better, or ever, but at least we know David and B.Jay are now part of that something bigger.

Dear Christoff family. Your son is the model leader of Marines. I was stationed with him at 1/3 in Hawaii and attended a Martial Arts Class with him where I learned that your son valued and lived by Marine Corps Leadership. His Honor, Courage and Commitment to his Marines and himself is exemplary and what he believed in and lived by. And your son didn’t need the Marines to teach him that. It was a part of him and who he was. I’m sorry for your loss and thank you for allowing me to briefly know your son. He will forever be a part of me and all other Marines he has lead. Semper Fidelis.

Dear Christoff Family,
I am a Marine currently stationed in Iraq. I had the pleasure of serving under your son for a brief period. As a combat photographer I was attached to Sgt Christoff's squad for one week in May. Though I did not know him well my first impression of David was a lasting one. He was a consummate professional who always accomplished to mission and above all took care of the Marines under his charge. This was clearly evident from the utmost respect and admiration given by both his junior and senior Marines. He was a true leader; his loss will be felt by all who served with him. My deepest condolences to your family.

Adam was also in the 3/3 Kilo Company 1ST Ptl. Adam loved being a Marine. Our heart breaks everytime this happens to another service person. Please know you are in our prayers.

I dont know if this is just for friends to write, but i am David's cousin. I just wanted to say how much the family appreciates everyones sympothy and we are trying so hard to be strong. Its so difficult but we are all so very proud of David. This is what he really wanted to to do, and we supported him in everything he ever wanted to do. We will fullfill his wishes and not forget the Battle of Fallujah as he asked, and we will try to be strong and always support his brothers in the military. Nothing can ever bring him back to us and nothing will ever settle the pain, but knowing there are people out there who care and know how it feels to lose someone helps to comfort us i guess. David, my sister Heather and I all grew up together. He was basically our big brother. Wherever David went i had to be, whatever David was doing i had to do it too. I idolized David, he was my romodel. He gave me good advice, he helped me do homework, he helped me in any difficult situation. I will never forget any of the times we had together. Playing ghost in the grave yard, him and Branden climbing on the roof in masks to scare me and my friend, all the times in the swimming pool, playing super nintendo, when he took me to a UT party with him, riding bikes, when he helped me stalk a boy i was obssesed with and much much more. He was not only an American Hero he was MY hero, he was my best friend. He always could make me laugh even when i was mad or upset. He always knew the right thing to say. He really was my everything. This is to you Cousin David, I love you and you will always be with me, you are my guardian angle. You will always be "little David" to me. One last thing....in David's words "Ashtashlada!!"

I stumbled across this obituary while searching for that of a friend's father, and I feel compelled to add my sympathies.
A distant cousin of mine, Lance Cpl. Patrick Kenny, was killed in Iraq on October 6, 2005. And although I did not know him personally, I felt a sense of loss and sadness that comes with the news of each such death.
I know this may be small comfort to the friends and family of Sgt. Christoff, but you are in the thoughts of many around our nation.
I wish you comfort, strength, and peace.

Even though we have never met, I feel as if we are a part of a "family". My daughter's finacee was killed by an IED in Iraq on Oct. 3, 2005. It's not until someone you know dies do you realize a war is going on, and what they (armed forces) are doing for this country. Dave was a tremendous man, and will be missed by more people than anyone will know because of the lives he touched, especially those that even he didn't know about. I only hope that more people realize the sacrifice that happens everyday for the life that we are able to live. Rest In Peace My Friend, as we uphold your honor for the rest of our days.

To the family of David Christoff,
I had the honor of serving as David's Platoon Commander when he first joined 1/3. I watched him grow from a PFC to possibly the Company's top squad leader in Fallujah. Professionally, my biggest dilemma with David was that his abilities forced me to routinely put him in charge of Marines that were senior to him. Personally, I will never forget him. He was in a class by himself. Thank you to his parents for raising such a great young man. I learned more about leadership from watching David than I ever learned from any school. His family can hopefully take some solace in the knowledge that had it not been for their son's leadership in Fallujah, we would have lost many more Marines than we did. My heart goes out to them.

We feel the loss of your son. Our son died along side him that day. Our nephew told us about this web page at B.Jay's funeral. The first and last time I saw young Dave was at his dad's house in Rossford. When I saw him I thought it would be cool to be a marine. Plus I would be in good shape like Dave. Even if I did join I don't think I would as great as a marine as him. He had eight or more medals for being a wonderful marine. He didn't like being called a hero because he said "the real heros are my brothers who gave their lives for our country." When I looked at all the pictures in the memory video I noticed that in all of the pictures he was always happy. I think Dave can now be happy to be called a hero because he is now one of the srtong marines who sacrificed his life for this country.

To Amy, Jim, Michael, Lauren and Dave:
My condolences go out to all of you during this time of sadness. John and I and our sons did not get a chance to see you and let you know how sorry we are. We would like you to know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers. Some memories of David are these:
I remember David as a young boy coming over to play basketball with my son , Scott. As he got older, he would still knock on our door and wonder if Scott could go to Eagle Point and shoot some hoops. Nice young man. The last time David was here to play ball he was in high school and Scott had said "Mom, do you remember David Christoff?" I did. And I will. We all will remember David and his courage and sacrifice. He will be in our hearts forever. God Bless you all.

Please accept my condolence on the lost of your son. He's America's finest and a true hero. I know the pain and heartache of losing a love one to Iraq Freedom. There is no words to express the sorrow I feel in my heart for you and your family. Again, I'm so sorry for you lost.

He is a hero in my eyes and my families. I never served in the military, but i was an aircraft firefighter for an airforce base for 10 years since retired, so i too know what it takes to put others lives in front of your own. I am honored to be able to write this message and I am eternally grateful for the freedom that he and others have given me. Now he is taking care of others in Heaven and I know God is taking care of him. Thank you and may God bless you.....Chris Feske(aka Willy Wonka)

All the words in the world can never erase the emptiness you are experiencing. My wish for you is that your tears will be as a refreshing rain to your soul, just as rain from the sky brings a type of cleansing and a new beginning as the sun begins to shine. May you find comfort in knowing that I and many Americans share in your sorrow.

Thank you, David, for living a life that touched so many people and has reached across the world to make a difference in lives, freedom and history. There aren't enough words to say thank you for your part in preserving our freedom and for your sacrifice to establish this freedom for others who've never had the privilege to live with it. Our hearts are heavy for your family and the other families who have suffered loss. May we, in the darkness of the early morning hours, reach to touch the hem of the master's garment for healing, rest and peace. May your family find the peace that passes all understanding. God Bless.

I work for a company that modifies vehicles for people with disabilities. I have had the opportunity to work closely with soldiers that have lost limbs and eyes due to the war in Iraq. They all say the same thing. They tell me they would go back and do it all over again. WOW. While I did not get the chance to meet David personally, I am a family friend (and former Rossford resident) of the Hogan's. My thoughts and prayers go out to you as well as the Christoff's. David was obviously a person that had the strength and determination to go above and beyond - to protect all of us and serve his country at a time of desperation and need. While he will be greatly missed, stand back and be proud of his accomplishments. He did something so selfless, so giving that few people can bring themselves to do. Reflect on the happiness he has brought to you and the freedom he has helped to bring to many....across the world.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the family and friends of Sgt. David R. Christoff, Jr. I did not know him but I was there as a Patriot Guard rider and had the honor of meeting some family members who were able to let me know more about this true American Hero. My thoughts and prayers go out to each and everyone of you. I believe we will all meet again someday in a place that David has already left for. God bless and keep you all.

As I type this Marines are making their way to Arlington to honor their Brother; SGT Christoff was our Marine's first team leader and later squad leader. Both wounded in Fallujah in Nov 2004, JJ revered SGT Christoff as did all the other Marines that ever knew him. This is why so many are headed to Arlington.

I did not know David but as a former soldier, I can tell you with every fallen comrad a piece of every living soldier goes with him or her. But just as that piece of us has passed on with David another blessing is born in our soul. This blessing's purpose is make sure David's memory lives on and to provide strength for his loves in difficult times. He would do it for us and we shall do it for him.

I never knew David personally. But as a longtime friend of both Patsy and Branden, I know how much they loved and cared for David.
David, thank you for your courage and your dedication to our country. Your selflessness and love for others are only a few of your many, many qualities that Branden and Patsy would like to pass on to Bray. You are truly a hero!

To The Family of Sgt. Christoff,
I want to express my deepest gratitude, and sympathy. I had the honor of serving side by side with Sgt. Christoff when we were with Bravo Co. 1/3. Sgt. Christoff was an excellent marine, leader, and friend. I was shocked when I heard of the news. Sgt. Christoff left each one of us from Bravo Co. something near and dear to our hearts. He was always unselfish, in every way. I remember when he would get care packages, he would gather everyone to share the contents, and always had a smile about it. He would also be there by our sides when times got tough. Sgt. Christoff will be missed, and again I just want to say that your son was one person everyone could rely on. He was an outstanding Marine, and leader.

To David's family - I am sorry for your loss. I was David's rifle platoon commander in 2002 and can attest that he stood out as a leader from day one. He did well in Fallujah in 2004 and I'm sure he did well on his second tour in country. I feel privileged to have served with him. God bless.

To the Family of Sgt. David R. Christoff:
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courgeous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life. We lost a son 12/1/05.
I know first hand there are no words right now that will bring you the comfort and peace you need. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you mourn this loss. We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with. I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally, but none of these courageous men and women will be forgotten. They will never be able to be replaced, but sometime, someday your loving memories will help to sustain you. This courageous soldier will forever now be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well. To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort. When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero. God Bless this courageous soldier and family.

My deepest sympathy to the family. I had the pleasure of serving with Sgt Christoff and I can say he was one of the finest young NCO'S I had the pleasure of serving with. I can remember how he would always give 110 percent to every mission asigned, he was unselfish and always went the extra mile for his Marines and buddies in his unit. The Marine Corps has lost a great leader and he will always be remember by those lucky enough to have seen him apply his trade. I will pass on his story to all Marines young and all. You are all in my prayers.1st Sgt Albert Diaz. Semper Fi.

Even now, I am still in a state of shock and disbelief. I pleaded with my sister to tell me she was joking when I heard the news. I did not have the privilege of knowing David all that well, but I did have a couple of classes with him at Shawnee and could always count on him to make me laugh. An example of a perfect gentleman, David always put taking care of others first, and his smile was contagious. I will never forget that, and consider myself so blessed to have known him. I have such a deep admiration for him and am truly grateful that an amazing individual like David chose to serve our country. His courage and dedication will always live on. To all of David's family and friends, may God give you comfort and peace in this time. You are in my prayers. David, see you on the other side. :)
