News Death NoticeMONTANUS, Janet Knoop Kinne died peacefully Monday morning at the Hyde Park Health Center. Janet was born in Troy, OH, Jan. 24, 1918, to John Kerr Knoop (founder of Trojan Farms) and Dorothy Dale Knoop, and spent her childhood on their picturesque farm, horseback riding and participating in the Four-H Club with her prize calf. The Knoop farm property has been in the family for over 200 years, and was a source of pride and pleasure always to Janet, her sisters Barbara (Bobby) Shepard and Dorothy (Skippy) Closson, and her brother Mark Knoop, all of whom preceded her in death. Janet attended the U. of Wisconsin and Parsons School of Design in New York. Upon returning home she was employed as a decorator at Clossons of Cincinnati. She met and married her beloved McKnight Kinne in 1941, son of Weber and Elmina Sebald, and elder brother of Sis Kinne Scallan, and they raised three daughters: Barbara Kinne Ellwood (John) of Winnetka, IL, Melissa Kinne Norton of Cincinnati, and Julie Kinne Whittaker (David) also of Cincinnati, in Middletown, OH, where 'Mac' was an executive with ARMCO Steel Corporation. She adored her eight grandchildren: John Ellwood of Portland, OR; Emily Ellwood Wyner (Chris) of Kenilworth, IL; Dr. Paige Ellwood of Portland, OR; Beau Tuke of Cincinnati; Elizabeth Tuke of New York, NY; Molly Whittaker San Francisco, CA; Anne Whittaker Emson (Tom) of Paris, FR; and Kathryn Whittaker of Chicago, IL; and two great-grandchildren, Catherine Wyner and Will Wyner. Following McKnight Kinne's untimely death in 1980, Janet married Dr. William P. Montanus, of Springfield, OH, who was a loving husband and grandfather, until his death in 1994. Janet was a past president of the Middletown Garden Club, and member of Browns Run Country Club and Cincinnati Country Club. She was talented at decorating, painting, and sewing and loved to entertain. Her friends were many, her laughter was loud and often, and her presence will be greatly missed by all. A family graveside service and burial will be held Monday, Jan. 3, at 10:30 am at the Knoop Family Cemetery in Troy, OH, followed by a memorial service at Indian Hill Episcopal/Presbyterian Church, Cincinnati, OH at 4pm that afternoon.
