Dempsie Frank Scott, Jr. ABHC(AW) USN (Ret), Was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia on August 8, 1949, and departed this life on May 7, 2025, following a brief battle with cancer. He was at his Milton, Florida home with his wife and daughters.
Dempsie is survived by his wife of 52 years, Bonnie K. Scott, daughters Lorri and Lyndi, five grandchildren Kelci, Kayla, Emily, Anaiston and Riley, five great-grandchildren Grayson, Mavrick, William, Kolton and Kollyns. Dempsie also leaves behind his brothers and sisters, Mike, Janie, Eddie, Connie, Jimmy, Amy, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, former colleagues and shipmates.
Dempsie attended Parkersburg South High School where he was a member of the Class of 1968. Following Graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he faithfully and proudly served his country from 21 January 1969 until 01 July 1993. He attended Basic Training at Great Lakes, Illinois; "A" School and "P" School in Lakehurst, NJ. Duty stations included USS Juneau (LPD-10), NAS Meridian,MS, Crash and Salvage; NAS Patuxent River, MD FAIRECONRON FOUR (VQ-4); USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67); NAS Whiting Field, FL Crash and Salvage; USS Iwo Jima (LPH-2); NAS Guantanamo Bay Cuba, Air Terminal Officer; and lastly back to NAS Whiting Field FL,Crash and Salvage for his twilight tour.
Following retirement from the Navy, he attended Locklin Vocational Center. He then started his second career as the Maintenance Manager of Sandy Ridge Center for Rehabilitation and Healing. He committed over another 20 years of service, insuring the facility was prepared for inspections, hurricanes and day to day operations.
Dempsie was known by many names during his 75 years. Junior to his wife and family. Dad or daddy to his daughters. Bubba or Pepaw to his grandchildren. Scotty and sometimes Papa Smurf to his shipmates and military friends. Dempsie to his coworkers after the Navy. But his most treasured title was when he became a Great Grandpa.
He enjoyed watching NASCAR, wondering around his yard tinkering, gardening, working a good jigsaw puzzle with his wife, trying a new recipe and fishing.
His final wishes were to be cremated and be returned home to his beloved wife. He will remain in her care until the time comes when they will be laid to rest together.
